yes, during the installation process you are asked how to partition the disk. Instead of selecting auto (which will only one partition for /) you can create the partitions as you like. So you can create an separate partiton for /home or use another disk.

Same way. You can enter as mount point of the partition what ever you like - /root, /foo, /bar, /catvideos You should not use /dev/null ;)

latest kernel 2.6.14.2. The laptop is a MSI megabook s260 with the
centrino plattform and a Intel Pro Wireless 2200BG (rev 05) wlan card.

Debian 2.1 wasn't a good choice for my Toshiba Satellite 21??.
The Kernel on the bootable CD-ROM does not like my Toshiba NB,

Try using the Windows-Logo-Key insteat of the ALT-Key (only at the console for
switching between them or back to X). Don't know why, but it's this way on my

I can't get the x server running with a resolution
of 1280x800. The maximum resolution I can set up
is 1024x768.
If anyone was successful with 1280x800, please post

u don't want APM-Support for a session just add APM=off in your
favorite boot-loader, which was lilo in my case.
this way brings a few disadvantages:
- no battery load available
- no switching between 2 batteries (on my Insprion 5000e)

You dont need xfs. just include the module freetype of xtt in XFree86-4
and you are done. Of course... you have to include de FontPath to the
truetypes and need to ttmkfontdir too!
