Would anyone happen to know what size packing material I need for MYSTY?
Unfortunately, the boat is 1,000+ miles away, so I cannot measure. She
does not have a "drip-less" coupling, only the factory original stuffing box
and a 1 1/8" shaft.
Many thanks in advance.

Hi All,
The gear shift lever on my 32 is sloppy as all hell. This is my second
season with the boat and it's been this way since I've gotten it and I'm
wondering if it can be tightened or something? There is no obvious method
to do so.
By sloppy I mean, play, there is loads of play both up and dow
Sounds as though you have worn bushings in the pedestal. Suggest simply
removing the compass assembly and digging down until you find the cause. There
is no magic cure.

Thanks Rich. So the compass is the main point of entry into the pedestal?
That's good to know, I'll check it out.

Just be careful taking things apart. Small screws have a great fondness for
cockpit drains.

Or for dropping down the pedestal riser tube.
BTW, with all this talk of engine control cables: with my recent
pedestal/engine control replacement, I had ordered a Teleflex CCX64306
transmission control cable (six feet long), then found that it actually needed
to be a seven-footer; so I have th

Yup, locking handles stay put.

To balance the karma, I got 2 good winch handles from the dumpster in
Annapolis. They were on top just waiting to find a good home. Joe. Coquina.

Any idea what size and where to purchace the cockpit drain hose from?
I would not expect it to be any special hose low to no pressure hose?
Looks like a 2" hose but dont want to disturbe the old hose till I
have a replacement in hand if you know what I mean.
Thank you for the advice.

I also have one. Also hurts less when dropped on my foot but if it goes

I've got both the Titan and the One Touch. My trimmer threw the original Barient, metal winch handle overboard and refused to sail with me until I bought a proper winch handle. He prefers the One Touch!sam :-) 403-617-6280

Bob,
With all due respect, floating winch handles seem like a great idea. I
actually have one on my boat, although no one uses it. They all like the
Lewmar and Harken handles better. If we dropped a floating handle over the
side while racing, I'm not going back for it, so it is as good as go

I used 2" heavy duty radiator hose with wire wrapped interior, bought (not

Jake,
With much respect, it's a choice with respect to floating winch handle

racing, I'd more than likely execute my winch handle overboard procedure,

Jake,
I didn't take in your point about the difficulty of spotting a floating
cushion, much less a winch handle. Nevertheless, floatation gives one a
shot at recovery.
