I have gotten my money's worth from the original 30 year old hose. I'm
looking at various silicone options but I'm not sure if I should be going
for corrugated or smooth. All advice appreciated in advance.

Hey all, I'm replacing the mixing elbow on my engine this winter, which
meant cutting 30 year old hose off of the muffler. Any suggestion for
the exhaust hose, 2" diameter with a big bend in it? Defender seems to
have many, many options... I just need the piece from the engine to the
muffler

Rick,
Did you buy access panels that were ready to install? If so, where? Sounds
like a great improvement over the 6 inch access port I currently have there. I
will be installing a boarding ladder this winter, and that would help a lot.
Also for adjusting the tension in the steering cables o

With all the talk about the 3/4 tons and the 33-1, how do you replace the
exhaust hose on the 33-1? Have any 33-1 owners had the exhaust hose
replaced?
I would like to replace the exhaust hose, muffler to transom, on my 33-1.

I bought a new muffler, hose, and through-hull with the intention of

Hi,
I replaced mine last summer as it was showing minor signs of leakage
detected by the surveyor (little rusty looking spots). Mine was a real

middle as it goes between the cutlass bearing mounting bolts. This is all

After seeing pictures of your hose installation I understand the problem
of removing that hose. I think I would still use the threaded part of the
U-elbow and step it up to black pipe and direct it to the muffler. 1 1/2" is
all you really need for exhaust on that engine. That being s

I have a 1976 38' Mark I. Originally it had an Atomic 4 which was
converted to a Yanmar in 1994. I don't know what was changed at that time other
than the engine.

Mine is a 32 and I did not have to crawl under the cockpit sole.I
did have to get into the engine compartment via the port lazarette to
access the muffler connection and push the new hose back alongside the
starboard hull to the transom where it loops up and goes d

Yes I am talking about the hose from the muffler to the stern and that is
my next project. I just can't see how I can get all the way to the back of the
boat under the cockpit sole . I think it is just to small for me to wiggle al

Are you talking about your exhaust hose from the muffler back? If it is
that old, it would be worth changing. Mine was probably original, 1984,
probably 26 years old when it just showed signs of leaking from the

No problem taking off the elbow assembly 20 min job. The exhaust hose
on the other hand is another thing. Why was the elbow such a problem for you ?

I did the same as you put a 90 degree fitting to direct the water
downward at the transom. One night after racing we were finishing of a few
beers with the engine running and the dink in back of the boat. When we were
done I turned off the motor went below to close all the cocks and
Gary,
My 38 mk1 has a Universal 4-cyl 36 HP engine with the exhaust on the port
side of the engine, so the geography of my installation may be a bit
different than yours. But here goes.

challenge you may be facing with your exhaust hose.
