On my 32, the emergency tiller connects to the rudder post, which is behind the binnacle, and faces aft towards the transom.  My boat has the 'camel seat' and the emergency tiller just clears the top of the seat.  I have never used it under way but I assume the boat turns to the same direction

This has bugged me since I bought the boat. The wrenches are currently cable-tied to the tiller and the tiller is tied to the hold down straps on the fuel tank. Not a fan really, and I don't like needing tools for such a thing. Thoughts/advice from those more evolved than I? Many thanks,

I would suggest LPS-2 as superior to either WD-40 or Silicone spray in this application. Silicone sprays usually contain very low amounts of silicone, and are mostly just comprised of petroleum Distillates, as is WD-40. LPS1 (low viscosity version that leaves a slippery dry film) and LPS 2 are

Robert, If the 3 in 1 oil you used stops working, try spray silicone. It's supposed to be the best lube for Delrin plastic. It's the same material as the ball bearings in roller furlings and WD40 or silicone spray work best there too. If it's a long term problem I would get a new bearing machine

Follow up: I fixed my squeaking, groaning rudder! I didn't even need to remove the collar around the emergency tiller fitting. All I needed to do was to squirt a little 3 in 1 oil between the rudder post and the plastic bushing. I was looking for a more complicated solution, I guess.  Robe

My 40 and the 41 I'm delivering south from St John, NB at the moment both have grease fitting on the tube. These are packed with grease and you give them a turn every now and then to lube the tube. Mine hadn't been done for quite some time so it needed to be repacked twice before I was confident
