I believe Dennis is correct. I also have an SH GX2150, installed at the helm
and paired with a Garmin 541 mounted on the pedestal. The input from the
GPS/plotter is NMEA183 (at 4800 baud I believe) and the AIS output is on a

If you want to use a pipe dope instead of Teflon tape, try Ultra Safety
Systems Tuff-Gel. It's the pipe dope companion product to TefGel.
You would have to read the label. I don’t know. I thought the through hull was
metal. Just the Teflon tape should do the trick. Wrap it in the direction the
valve will turn as you thread it on.

The seal should be between the outer hull and the part of the through-hull that
contacts the outer part of the hull. A good bedding compound like 4200, sikalex
or life caulk works well. I don’t seal the threads on the inside of the backing
nut but that is your choice. My hull is solid glass, not

I think that was me last season on the backstay! I couldn't get enough
forestay tension above ~17/19 knots to point well or mast bend to flatten the
main - I think because the step has now sunk enough that I couldn't dial in
enough forestay adjustment or babystay traveler. We were having

engineering would have been greatly appreciated. In their defense, guys that
sail with a huge amount of pressure on the backstay don’t help the situation at
