The execution of Acrobat when selecting a PDF file (even from a trigger

Netscape has it in the preferences under "applications".

We have successfully done this by restoring an old version of the TSM
database which DOES know where the files in question live. We restore this
to a non-production server, then IF reclamation hasn't cleaned off that
tape, we can restore the file. (We call it a "hail Mary restore" :-} ).
although it might be less important with copypool tapes,
remember to do a db backup soon before or after copypool tapes become
pending. that's why they created a delay reuse.

Can the web developers please create a way for us to easily download
the manuals from the web site?

The only solution we have found is to reduce the length of the
directory/file name. Since NT only allows 256 chars and TSM backups up from
the root of a directory structure that is only thing that can be done. Or
you can exclude the directory from being backed up.

Do look at the price comparison of a 3466 as a 'total solution' option.
What I mean is , don't dismiss it as just another AIX box.
It includes a license for 5000 clients (or at least it used to!)
And may even be cheaper as a whole than buying all the parts yourself.

Hello Toni
Check the server logs around the time of the restore.
We have about 160 NT 4.0 servers that we need to install TSM 3.7.0. on. Is
there
any automated way to install the client. Does TSM have something or is there
some code to automate and customize installs.
Werner,
It sounds to be like you have a 7337 15 slot DLT changer???.
Regardless ... you can checkout the DB tape from the changer/robot without
deleting it from VOLHIST. And then put a new scratch in for use.

Peter,
I noted that you "tried" to format a new log...how? Did you check
to see if you had enough filesystem space available (I'm guessing you
running on UNIX).
Here are the steps I followed when I needed to extend a new log:
1. dsmfmt -m -log /adsmdata/log.2 ##
The folder \winnt\system32\config, containt the NT Reg. You cannot backup it
directly. ADSM do a "export" a the REG and then backup it. c:\adsm.sys

I have checked for all unavailable tapes. the tape I req is not on the list
The access for the restore tape is read only
Toni
check for volumes that might be unavailable...
q vol acc=unavail
also it might be that the volume is currently being used as output or input
elsewhere... say in a migration or reclamation...
if you look in the server act log you'll see the volume it was needing and
just check on its status
Verify that tape's access is not unavailable and it is checkin in to the library

what you can do with adsm to put your data offsite is to create a copy
storagepool for your primary storagepool. then you copy your backup data each
day to synchronise the primary with the copypool and at the end of the week
you checkout all copypool tapes and take them to your bank.

The incremental Backup doesn't mind if there was a selective or not, he just

You don't need to use a selective Backup, you can use archive also. you just
have to look, if the seetings in the archive copy group that is used by the
client fits your needs.

Hello,
thanks for the fast answer.
How can i say the selective backup to hold data for 183 or 42 days with one
version, like you can do it with archive ??
And How can you tell the incremental backup to only store data that has
been changed till last selective week fullbackup ??
thanx Matthias
Hi Matthias.
You could do it in this way:
define a schedule which makes a selective backup of all filesystems on the
servers. This Schedule runs every sunday.
define a second schedule, which makes incrementals on all weekdays.
associate the clients with the two schedules and that's it.

I know your problem, I had it before. You have no chance to delete them all
together. You could write a shell-script with a loop that deletes the

otherwise the delete-commands may produce deadlock situations of the se
