Re: [Talks] questions about the Talks key.
Hi, Is toggle Bluetooth key also available in N86? If yes, where can I find it? Thanks in advance, Estelita - Original Message - From: "Saqib" To: Sent: Wednesday, February 09, 2011 12:15 PM Subject: Re: [Talks] questions about the Talks key. Hi thanks for that bit of information about the Bluetooth toggle key. It works on my Nokia E5. That key also is the Talks key so I have to press it twice if I want to toggle Bluetooth. Original message: Dawnielle I use the e73 mode every day as my main phone. I don't experience these issues. After reading your email I tried to duplicate the experience you describe, but when I press Talks 0 my phone always togles in and out of training mode. When I press talks and soft key 2 it always reads out the status. I tried changing the cursor mode but the keys still perform correctly. I don't know if you could be pressing the bluetooth key instead of the 0 by mistake or not. They aren't near each other. The bluetooth togle button is the 3rd button from the left on the bottom row of keys. First is the function keys, then the edit key, then the bluetooth on and off key. A short press of this bluetooth key togles a "reading" light on and off on the phone screen apparently for folks to using at night. Pressing and holding that key a second or two togles the bluetooth on and off. There's really no reason I can think of for your phone to be doing what you described unless it was programmed wrong at the factory for some reason. As you first get the phone the talks key is what they call the "home" key. if you press it twice it takes you back to the stand by screen. Soft key 1 is set as the menu key. I reset soft key 1 to settings which then cause the talks key to become the menu key if you press talks twice like it is on many phones. I reset those keys back to their original functions to see if that would duplicate the issues you describe, but talks 0 worked fine and talks soft key 2 worked fine in both set-ups. Denise At 03:13 PM 2/8/2011, you wrote: Hi, I was able to figure out which key was the talks key last night on my Nokia E73 Mode and started playing around with the manual and my phone. When I press the Talks key in conjuction with zero to enter training mode, it toggles my blue tooth on and off, rather than putting me in training mode. Why is this? It only has let me enter training mode once. I've also pressed talks plus key two for the battery/signal strength and it tells me some times and not others. My curser mode is still original. Do I need to change it for these functions to work properly? Over all, I'm liking Talks much better than Mobile Speak. I'm just hoping I can get these issues sorted out so that I can keep Talks. I'm able to read my e-mail with Talks with no problems. I wasn't able to do this with Mobile Speak. Re: [Talks] TALKS 5.20 Release Notes
Hi, I am not using my Nokia N86 in Internet, just wondering if it is possible now to read the help file offline with this new update? I didn't remember it mentioned in the Release Notes, or I might just missed it! Clarification is very helpful, thank you. - Original Message - From: "Neil Barnfather - TalkNav" To: "Talks Mailing List" ; ; "The Accessible Phones Discussion List" Sent: Thursday, February 17, 2011 5:19 PM Subject: [Talks] TALKS 5.20 Release Notes Dear All, TalkNav are delighted to confirm the release of the latest build of Nuance Talks, offering a wide range of new support for both OVI Maps and newer Symbian ^3 devices. For the full release notes please read below. You can immediately download the latest version of Talks from the TalkNav web-site, and for those of you needing an update to your license, we can provide these 24 hours a day 7 days a week with instant activation. enjoy... Nuance TALKS&ZOOMS Version 5.20 Release Notification 1. Introduction We proudly announce the release of the Nuance Accessibility Suite – Nuance TALKS and ZOOMS – Version 5.20 supporting Series 60 3rd Edition / 5th Edition for February 17, 2011. This version also introduces support for Symbian^3 in Nuance TALKS. Screen magnification using ZOOMS is not yet supported on Symbian^3 in this release. For Users with a Premium license this version also contains the new Daisy2go 2.01 minor update. This release uses the same versions of Eloquence and Vocalizer as the previous one (6.1.123 and 5.22, respectively). The TTS installation file for Eloquence US English has been updated to extend the user dictionary. Version 5.20 is a free upgrade for all Premium Edition licenses generated after November 13th, 2007 (the release date of TALKS 3.50 for 3rd Edition). In particular, this means that it can be installed by any customer who is currently able to run version 4.11 or 5.01 without requiring a new license. 2. The new handsets 2.1. Changes to the list of supported phone models The following handsets are newly supported (please see section 4 “Known Issues” about some limitations): Nokia C6-00 Nokia C7-00 Nokia E5-00 Nokia N8-00 We also assume the following phones to work without major problems. However we have not got enough test results yet to definitely confirm this: Nokia C5-03 Nokia C6-01 Nokia E7-00 See section 6 for a full list of compatible handsets for this version. 3. What’s New? This section lists the improvements of TALKS&ZOOMS 5.20 compared to the previous version (5.01). 3.1. Support for Symbian^3 Nuance TALKS 5.20 is the first screen reader that supports the new Symbian^3 platform that is used by Nokia in some of its most recent smartphone models, such as the N8-00 and the C7-00. Support for the just-released E7-00 is likely, but has not yet been confirmed. Overall, access to Symbian^3 works in a very similar manner to the approach used for 5th Edition touch screen phones, by relying on a combination of list navigation using the side keys of the phone together with the ability to “explore” the screen. As reminder, “exploring” can be started by holding the finger on one position for about half a second, and then moving around. Lifting and tapping again anywhere on the screen will click on the most recently “explored” position. As usual, some features, such as side key navigation, are only available once the phone has been powered off and back on after installing or re-enabling TALKS. As a special feature for Symbian^3 phones which do not include physical [Call] and [Exit] keys, such as the N8-00, two new TALKS shortcuts have been introduced to still be able to perform these important functions quickly: [Talks],[Power] simulates the [Call] key, e.g. to accept an incoming call or to open the list of most recently dialled calls. [Talks],[long Power] simulates the [Exit] key, to hang up or reject a call. Note that the call is only hung up after the [Power] key is released, unlike with most other “long” TALKS commands. A few remarks on specific areas with limited accessibility on Symbian^3 phones: · Symbian^3: screen magnification using ZOOMS and Automation are not yet supported. · Some Symbian^3-specific gestures, such as pinch-to-zoom and long-tapping a menu item to open its context menu are not available while TALKS is running. Anyway, in the case of context menus it is generally possible to access the same functions by navigating to the menu item using the side keys, and then opening the Options menu. · It is not yet possible for TALKS to speak while a phone call is in progress. Speech is however available when an incoming call is ringing, and the ringtone has been muted by pressing [Key 2]. Please note that TALKS does not yet announce the number or name of the caller in this case. It is therefore recommended to use the “Say caller’s name”

As I stated in my initial reply, I said you had to download the ZIP file. A zip file means that the thing is compressed all into one file. Talks, Eloquence, the program itself, Manual for the program, and the release note are all in it. Then you can open the zip file on your computer and read the release note from both versions. You can also go to many dealer sites and find the release notes file along with the software as well. One web site you can try is Talknav www.talknav.com and they have the release note for Talks 5.01.1 by itself. I do not recall off the top of my head if they have the release note for Talks 5.00.3 or not. No the Release note for Talks 5.01.1 doesn't contains the changes to 5.00.3 as far as what has changed from the 4.5x version. Signed: Stephen Giggar Skype: dr-phone. They have to find a new person, then train that person, then decide on how things probably need to continue going and lastly start working on that plan. Probably sounds easier then it is. This will give you 10 things about the memory. It will tell you how much your calendar is using, how much your contacts are using, how much your messages are using, and much more. This will then give you some idea where to look to free up memory on your phone. I helped someone just this last weekend who ran out of memory on the phone. They didn't use the phone for anything and didn't know what was going on. By using the memory detail screen, it told me withing a few seconds what was using the memory on the phone. Then i had them go and delete the memory usage files. In there case, they wher pressing the camera button on there phone and taking photos and videos. So this can show you by looking at the memory details can help you find and fix low memory on a drive of your phone. talks will read the memory detail screen. You need to use the up and down arrow to hear each item on this screen. Depending on your phone, this screen may be accessed from the menu of your phone. Just go into the menu of your phone, press option, arrow up to memory details, press right arrow and then arrow to the memory that you want the detail about and press select. Give the phone a few seconds to get the information. Then use your arrow keys to read the screen. Hi Stephen, I set my Talks to always mute during a call, but when I dial to call, Talks announces the number or the name I am calling if that name is in my contacts. What is annoying is Talks starts talking while the other end is talking as well. For example, I am checking my balance, I cannot hear the amount it's saying because Talks interrupts that I often redial and listen closely. I tried to mute the Talks before pressing the dial key, yet it didn't helps. Re: [Talks] deleting folders
Oh yeah, they are empty and identical folders, that I found in different drives including my F card. Suppose this phone firmware will give us freedom on what to keep or not! - Original Message - From: "Stephen Giggar" To: "Talks Mailing List" Sent: Monday, November 01, 2010 1:39 PM Subject: Re: [Talks] deleting folders There are some folder that the phone creat on it's own on the different drives. These can not be removed. If you remove them the phone will put them back as you found. You can empty them out and at that point, they aren't using space so don't worry about them if they are empty. This will then tell you how many characters you have at the start of a message. As you can see, this is information you can get on your own just by checking at the start of a message to see how many characters are left. This is how long the message can be for that part as far as the phone knows. This limit may be larger and or smaller then what your cell provider has as there default. This may also depend on the language being used. This is why i suggest using the above to see how long of message you can write. Re: [Talks] checking how many characters are in a message
Hi Christopher, I have done some expermentation on this dilemma and found an interesting result! By the way, I am using N86, with Talks and zooms V premium 5.00.3. I asked my sighted husband to look at my phone's screen on the message area, it displays 160. I wrote some lines, the display didn't change and Talks still reads 160 1. In my computer, I have a file consists of 33 words and character with spaces is 192 long. I wrote this whole file and when I'm done, I checked and it says 102 2! I texted it to my husband and he got it with no problem. My conclusion is, I can write long messages on my phone with no worries of cutting short of the words, like most people usually do. Cheers, Estelita - Original Message - From: "Christopher Chaltain" To: "Talks Mailing List" Sent: Monday, November 01, 2010 10:27 PM Subject: Re: [Talks] checking how many characters are in a message Hmm, I'm stumped. I tried the same message, set my punctuation to none, and I heard 140 1, with a little pause between the 140 and the 1. Talks won't warn you when you get to the end of the message because you'll just roll over into the next part of the message. For example, if I type a 180 character message then I'd hear 140(2). I wonder if you're running into a bug. I know you said you were running Talks 5.0, but was that 5.00.3 or 5.01.1? Also what phone and firmware are you running? I assume the number of characters actually appears on the screen. When I wrote the 192 characters long text, I didn't ask my husband to look at my screen, but Talks says 102 2 which I assume the 2 is in bracket. So, I got the count down then, why it was 102 when the text was 192 characters, I'm not bother, as long as my message reaches to my recipient with no problem. If I mentioned of most people shortcuts their words when texting, because that's how I receive as often. In fact, I did the same, thinking that I only have limited characters to use. My phone is working fine, so I don't need any updates as yet! Estelita - Original Message - From: "Christopher Chaltain" To: "Talks Mailing List" Sent: Tuesday, November 02, 2010 3:43 PM Subject: Re: [Talks] checking how many characters are in a message Are you saying that when you were typing in a message on your phone, your sighted husband was saying the display was saying 160 and it wasn't changing? If so, that sounds like a bug in the software on the phone. If it's important to you, you may want to see if there's an update for your phone. Also, did you say that you entered a long message of around 192 characters and Talks told you you had 102(2) characters left? That sounds like the character count is getting updated, although I'd expect it to say 128(2). Finally, are you saying that most people have to worry about sending long messages? If so, that isn't the case any more. Most carriers and text messaging programs will just concatinate your messages together to create a longer message. That's why you're hearing things like 160(1) and 102(2). The number in parenthesis indicates how many parts there are to your message. -- Christopher chalt...@gmail.com On 11/2/2010 10:13 AM, Estelita wrote: Hi Christopher, I have done some expermentation on this dilemma and found an interesting result! Remember to do another Talks followed by Clear to unmute Talks. Like I said, you only need to do the above 1 time to enable the voice command function on the N86. After this, it will continue working. For what ever reason, you never get the question about enabling the voice command function if Talks isn't muted to start with for the very first time. Re: [Talks] Key to Using Voice Commands
Hi Stephen, Sorry that my last message wasen't very clear. Anyway, I followed your instruction step by step, as what it says. The N86 is different. The first time you use this on the N86 you must do the following. 1. First mute Talks, press and release the Talks key and then press Clear. Yes, I did that! 2. Now press and hold SoftKey2 for about 2 seconds and release it. Yes, I did that! 3. Now do a Talks up arrow to read the line on the screen. Yes, I did that! 4. You will need to answer YES or NO to the question, SoftKey1 is for YES and SoftKey2 is NO. 5. Press SoftKey1. No, I did not do that, because there was no question when I did the step 3, so I did not press the SoftKey1. All I heard when I did the step 3 was the calendar entry, or my contact list. Since the step 3 failed, it means I cannot proceed to: 6. Now you should hear your phone give the asending tone. 7. Speek the command. But, I did step 8 to get my phone talking again. 8. Remember to do another Talks followed by Clear to unmute Talks. Re: [Talks] Key to Using Voice Commands
Hi Dave, Step 3 says: "Now do a Talks up arrow to read the line on the screen." I have no idea how do you understand by reading that line, but for me, it means that first I have to press the Talks, or to be specific the menu key, then press the up arrow key. Where else did I get wrong? Anyway, perhaps this will not work for me, so never mind, at least I tried, and I truly appreciate Stephen's effort to help.
