Re: Continuous Reading in Ibooks on iPhone 4S
Hello Esther and others, I would like to thank you all very much for your input regarding my question about continuous reading of a book in the iBook application. As you stated, Esther, a two-finger flick down from within the text did the trick. And yes, I agree that upon more thought, this makes sense. Now to my next question: Is it a reasonable expectation that most commercially-done, contemporary novels found in the bookstore will be accessible? Even though I am currently in the U.S., I am still taken to the Austrian App Store, though manually switching isn't a problem. Kindest regards and thanks once again for your assistance, Mike On 26,Feb,2012, at 12:59 PM, Esther wrote: > Hi Mike, > > Just to expand on my comment about issuing the two-finger flick down from the > text area of the book to get continuous reading going in iBooks. My situation is somewhat different. I live in Austria and have lived there for over 35 years. I am just visiting family and friends in the States now. Thus far, I have been able to get everything I wanted from the Austrian App store. However, since I am physically present in the States right now, I have to intentionally load the Austrian App store before making purchases. My Mac automatically loads the US store since I am here right now. I was going to put some money on an App store card while here, but I'm not sure if the gods in Cupertino will let me do this. :) Mike On 28,Feb,2012, at 7:05 AM, Chris Blouch wrote: > Odd. Looking for a good English Dictionary for the iPhone that does just a little bit more
Hello everyone, I recently downloaded the Merriam-Webster dictionary App for my iPhone, and I really like it. There is one feature, however, that it either doesn't have, or I haven't been able to activate it. Sometimes, when entering an unfamiliar word, I don't get the spelling quite right, and the dictionary accurately states that the word isn't in its database. I am looking for an offline dictionary that automatically lists alternative words that it thinks might be the word I am actually looking for. My old Franklyn Language Master has this feature, and I am looking for something similar for the iPhone. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated. In case you're interested, the word over which I stumbled, i.e. the word that made me wish for this feature was "potemkin." Hello Aser, Is the dictionary to which you referred in your second posting from Oxford University Press? I frequently recommend the Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary to my students in Vienna. This dictionary is great for both students of English and those of us who grew up with the language. I will have a look. Can the iPhone be used as a Magnifier?
Hi. I am totally blind, so this wouldn't help me. I was asked by a physician whether or not there was an App for the iPhone that turned it into a magnifier. The idea is that you point the rear camera at some print that is then magnified and displayed on the front screen of the unit for viewing. Does such an App exist? AppleWorks Conversion to something more modern?
Greetings, I recently received some files on a USB Stick that contained several files with a CWK extension. When I tried to open one of them, I was told that I was attempting to open an AppleWorks file. When I spoke with the person who gave me the USB stick, she said that the files had been created on an old Apple computer quite some time ago. Does anyone know how I might be able to assist this person and convert the files to something that is usable on a modern Mac? Is there a free, or not too expensive utility out there that would accomplish this task for us? Difficulties on iPhone 4S sending iMessages as opposed to 3G text messages
Hello everyone, I have several friends who use iPhones, and I would prefer to send them iMessages as opposed to text messages, for which I pay. The problem I am having is that for some reason, I am not able to send them iMessages. I have gone into the Contacts app, as well as the Messaging app, but I can't find a place where I can specifically pick iMessage as opposed to "Text Message." I must have changed something in settings somewhere, because this used to work. I am still in the States and am using Wi-Fi only, with Airplane Mode turned on. Since I'm not having problems with FaceTime, I have reason to believe that the settings pertaining to Wi-Fi and Airplane Mode are correct. Any thoughts? Hello Alberto, Normally, I would agree with you, but, per your suggestion, I went into the settings and still did not find what I wanted. iMessaging is turned on. Nor did I didn't learn anything helpful when I clicked on the link that took me to the part of the manual that talked about the iMessaging service. So I still find myself wondering why I am only being permitted to send text messages, though iMessaging is turned on and my phone is turned off. Re: Difficulties on iPhone 4S sending iMessages as opposed to 3G text messages
There's a thought, Ricardo, though I am not optimistic. If that were a criterion, then other people's phones or iPads would need to be constantly transmitting this info to the network. Nevertheless, for the sake of thoroughness and since you are probably right :) I will ask them to check this option. Thanks for your responses. The accessibility of Zello?
Hello to all of you, Has anyone ever used a communications App called Zello and if so, is the iPhone version accessible? When I went to zello.com, I noticed that several elements on the page couldn't be read with Safari, and this caused me to wonder about whether or not it would even be worth my while to download Zello for the iPhone. Thanks, Robert, for the helpful information. I didn't want to download the App, only to find out that it wasn't usable. Kapten GPS
Hello all, During my recently-concluded trip to the States, I spoke with a blind individual who mentioned in passing that he used a navigation App called Kapten GPS. Unfortunately, I didn't get a chance to find out how well the App worked for him. In the App Store, I found an App called Kapten Europe GPS Multitransport for 5.99 Euros, but I have yet to determine whether or not this price includes the map updates. It probably does not. Has anyone ever tried out this App, and how were your results? Thank you very much, Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Turning off or Disabling Trackpad
Greetings! Recently, a blind friend of mine purchased either a MacBook or MacBook Pro. I am attempting to teach him how to use his Mac, and we are making a lot of progress. We are having one problem, however, where I could use a tip: Sometimes, while typing, his wrist accidentally hits the Trackpad, and VoiceOver starts talking. Is there a way to disable the Trackpad so that this doesn't occur? I purchased my MacBook in early 2009, but I can't remember what I did to disable the Trackpad. However, my friend just recently purchased his Mac two months ago. I don't know if it is a MacBook or MacBook Pro, or if this even makes a difference. We need to disable the Trackpad or at least "shut it up" when his wrist accidentally bumps against it. Fortunately, when I touch the trackpad on my Mac, VO doesn't say a thing, but I can't remember how I made this happen. I have gone into the System Preferences, but I didn't locate a "Disable Trackpad" option. In the VO Utility program, "Enable Trackpad Commander" is unchecked on my system. Would we be able to silence my friend's Trackpad if we unchecked it on his Mac, or do we also need to do something elsewhere? "Finder Busy" and Mac overheating
Hello listers, Recently, a lot of people have been talking about a bug that causes VO to constantly say: "Safari Busy." I, too, have frequently encountered this bug. I sometimes have a problem of a slightly different nature. Occasionally, though I cannot duplicate this problem at will, I am unable to do anything in Finder. VO says "Finder Busy," and my MacBook starts to get hot. Even though the fan turns on, the unit gets quite hot to the touch, and the only thing I can do is shut down my system. I do this by going to any app, except finder, that is running, and shut down my system through the Apple menu. I do not know if this issue is in any way related to Voice Over, but some insight into rectifying the problem would be truly appreciated. Nisus Writer Pro, Auto Correct and Voice Over
Hi. The most recent version of Nisus Writer Pro has an Auto Correct feature, and this is something I have been looking for in a Mac word Processing application for a long time. Has anyone had any experience using this feature with VO? I am wondering if it is possible to configure the Auto Correct feature and VO in such a way that whenever I was correcting any writing, I would only hear the corrected text instead of both the original text as well as my corrections. Whenever I need to use the auto correct feature in collaborative work, I currently use MS Word, Office 2007 and Window-Eyes. This works very well for me, but it tethers me to my desktop. Pesky Dictionary and Sidebar issue
Greetings to all of you, I am having an issue with the Dictionary app that is part of Mac OS. Dictionary is in my Doc, just the way I like it. Unfortunately, however, it has recently been appearing in my Sidebar as well. Whenever I arrow over it in the Sidebar, it automatically opens, so I cannot remove it from the Sidebar by using the context Menu (VO-shift-M). Does anyone have any work-around for this pesky issue? I tried going to the entry on the Sidebar while the App was open, but I was still unable to get to the context menu. I also looked through the menu options in the program itself. Unless I missed it, I was also unable to find anything about Dictionary opening in the Sidebar in the app's Preferences, as well. Re: Pesky Dictionary and Sidebar issue
Hello Anne, Your suggestion was the first thing I tried before posting my query to the list. The problem I am having is that as soon as I land on the dictionary, it automatically launches, and I am taken out of Finder. Even if I leave the Dictionary open and Command-Tab back to Finder, I still can't remove the Dictionary from the Sidebar. Thanks for the suggestion, however; you are always helpful. MLB for the iPhone and Accessibility of Archived games
Hello listers, I purchased "At Bat," an App that works with the MLB.com website. I can't remember how much I was charged, but I am now able to listen to Major League Baseball games in real time on my iPhone. The problem I am having is an inability to listen to Major League Baseball offerings that are archived. In other words, I can listen to every game in real time, but I am unable to listen to archived games, something which would be nice since I am in Central Europe.. Here are my questions: 1. Do I have to pay extra, if I want to listen to archived games on my iPhone? 2. If I use my Mac, instead of my iPhone to listen to archived games, are there any major accessibility issues? 3. When listening to archived games, either on the Mac or on the iPhone, is it possible to jump around in a game? I know that sighted friends can specifically pick innings they want to listen to, but I don't know if this is possible for us, from an accessibility perspective. Thanks so much! RSS in ML?
Hello everyone, I recently installed Mountain Lion and, for the most part, things are great. I am having one issue, however, and that is with Mail's RSS facility. I have been subscribed to several RSS feeds for a long time, and I have always read them in the Mail program. Under ML, however, those mailboxes are no longer visible in my list of mailboxes. Re: Issue with Escape Key in Mountain Lion
Hello Gavin, Thanks for your feedback. Unfortunately, the ideas you described don't really work for me. What I may do is ask a sighted person if it is possible for them to escape out of a menu when VO is not running. Perhaps this will at least let me determine whether or not this is just a VO bug. Re: Scanning program for the iPhone I felt
Hello everyone, I was sorely tempted to chop off the last two words of the subject but wasn't sure if I was allowed to do that since I"m not a list moderator. I went to the Applevis site and read all the posts about TextDetective. They were very informative. I have two questions, however: 1. I have an iPhone 4S which has a front and rear camera. Which camera does TextDetective require you to use? 2. Apparently, the program will only read material if it is right-side-up, from the camera's perspective. Has this been addressed in the most recent update? My best to all of you, and thanks! Two other questions about Navigon, Anne: In the App Store, there are versions of Navigon for both the U.S. and for Europe. Continuous Reading in Ibooks on iPhone 4S
Hello everyone, A couple of weeks ago, I downloaded the book on Siri and have started to read it. The navigation works reasonably well, i.e. I can go to specific pages and read a page in its entirety. Where I am having a problem, however, is getting VoiceOver to read continuously. At present, at least with the approach that seems to be working for me, I have to go to the page chooser and flick to the next page.. Is there a way to get iBooks to do continuous scrolling or get VoiceOver to automatically "turn pages and thus ensure continuous reading," as it were? I am staying with a friend who has an iPad and he tells me that he is able to get this to work. He puts his iPad in Landscape mode and can see two pages at a time. Would putting my iPhone in Landscape Mode yield the same results? I tried, but was unsuccessful. Kindest regards to all, with thanks in advance, Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Continuous Reading in Ibooks on iPhone 4S
Hello Jane, That's the problem. A two-finger flick down reads the current page, but reading is halted at the end of the page. I have been unsuccessful at having continuous read to work. I am read the current page from start to finish, but then VO stops reading, i.e. the next page isn't turned to, nor is reading continued. Re: Annoying issue with sending message to certain contacts under iOS7
Hello Cheryl, Thanks for your input. All of the phone numbers in my contacts are correctly identified. In every single situation where a contact has more than one phone number listed, this problem occurs. In instances where a contact only has one number listed, i.e. the cell phone number, things work fine. This problem occurs no matter whether or not I use the bluetooth keyboard. I have also checked to be sure that cell phone numbers are properly labelled as such. This issue makes life very complicated, since many people with whom I need to stay in touch will only respond if they are sent text messages. I'm not sure how that would work either, Ray, but since I thus far only needed to send messages to individual recipients ... Multilingual woes with USB headset with MacBook
Hello everyone, I am having an annoying problem that is begging for a solution. About two years ago, I received a USB microphone/headset when I purchased Dragon Dictate for my Mac. Everything worked perfectly until I inadvertently messed something up, either in the VO settings or in the Mac preferences. Here's the problem: Whenever I work in English, I hear speech through the headset, as things should be. I can also use the USB headset's microphone for Skype conversations. However, when I switch to German, speech is routed through the MacBook speakers, something which I definitely don't want. Furthermore, all of the navigation sounds upon which I depend (i.e. tops and bottoms of rows and columns) are sent to the MacBook speaker, not to the headset. If I use line-in earphones, I hear absolutely everything through the headphones, as would be expected. Any thoughts on how to rectify this problem would be appreciated. Accessible Lync Conference Software for the Mac?
Hi. I have been asked to collaborate with some software developers in the US on a project. They asked me if a Lync conference would be possible since they need to have visual, as well as audio communication. Since Lync is a microsoft product, as is Skype, there may be a cross-program solution, of which I am not aware. Skype is extremely accessible on the Mac and I may suggest to them that we go with Skype. However, if this isn't possible at their end for some reason, how can I still make the conference happen using my Mac? Is Lync even accessible on the Mac, provided it exists on that platform? Is ther a way to change punctuation behavior on iDevices?
Hi, I am using an iPhone 4S and have been doing so for a long time, relatively speaking. I have 64GB of Memory. Whenever possible, I read books on the iPhone, using the Kindle app, iBooks, Nook, Blio and Voice Dream. Since installing iOS 7 and beyond, I have noticed that when using VoiceOVEr for reading, I no longer hear a pause in speech after encountering a full-stop or, as the Americans say, a period. While I still hear slight pauses after commas, I don't hear them after periods. This makes reading long texts arduous and far less enjoyable. I also notice similar behavior from the iPhone when reading back texts I myself have generated. I have looked at VoiceOver settings and have found no way to command VO to re-introduce the pauses that used to follow after Periods. Has anyone else encountered this problem, or is something perhaps wrong with my iPhone? Would the problem be rectified if I set my unit back to its default settings? Your thoughts would be appreciated. Kindest regards to all, Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: [440611] Nuance Voices Pronouncing Words as Letters/Numbers in 10.9.2
Hello Alex, I am still using Mountain Lion and have no plans to "upgrade" until complaints about accessibility are less frequent. Therefore, I, and others like me, can't really comment on this. However, I was wondering if you could attach a small MP3 file (if the list owners don't mind) in which we could hear precisely what you mean? Locking the iPhone in portrait mode under iOS7
Hi. When I first purchase my iPhone 4S over two years ago, I locked it in portrait mode and the process went without a hitch. The other day, I needed to do a reset of my phone and as a result, all of my settings were lost. Though most things are back to normal, I have been unable to lock the phone in portrait mode. When I originally did this, I went into the app switcher and swiped from left to right until I was presented the opportunity to address this issue. Have things changed with iOS 7? If not, could someone tell me what I am doing wrong? Is there a reference article addressing this issue with VO in the equation? Re: Talking goggles
Hello Jessica, One thing I noticed is that when trying to determine what information is on a product, I have the video on, and I slowly move the iPhone over the package. I also hold the iPhone about a foot away from the item. This is approx. 30 CM. Sometimes, I have to wait up to 20 seconds or so before hearing a response. Re: Limeade 18000 MHA Pack
Hello Angus, I regularly travel between Europe and North America and always have my Macbook and iPhone 4S with me. In terms of power caveats, you should be aware of two things: The Apple USB wall charger (the device you plug into an electric outlet and into which you connect a USB cable) switches voltages automatically. Secondly, the physical outlet into which electrical devices are plugged is different in the UK than here on the continent or in the US. I'm assuming that Canada has the same types of outlets as does the States. I usually purchase my adapters from Radio Shack when I am in the States and I purchase them here in Austria from sources that are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Take care and kindest regards, Mike By the way, I've never encountered a USB wall charger that didn't do this. Fantasy Baseball on the iPhone?
For years and years, I have lived in Austria, but I grew up in the States and have followed the St. Louis Cardinals since I was seven years old. Recently, I have been thinking about baseball quite a bit, missing not being in the States for the season and wondering if it is possible for a blind person to use some sort of app on the iPhone and participate in a fantasy baseball league. If this is not possible on the iPhone, is it possible on a Mac? Hi, Janet, First of all, I"d like to thank you for responding so promptly. It is good to know that there is something out there that will make the experience enjoyable. I have a couple of questions, now that I know that this could work and actually be fun. Since I've never played fantasy baseball, I don't know the rules. Does the app come with sufficient documentation, or must one find it elsewhere? And do you know what the name of the app is so that I can be sure to purchase the one that is accessible? I sure hope that I can find the app in the Austrian App store. :-) Best regards from Vienna, Mike On 7,Mar,2014, at 2:48 PM, Janet Ingber wrote: > Hi Mike, > > Yahoo's fantasy baseball iOS app is accessible. > > Take care, > Janet > On Mar 7, 2014, at 8:08 AM, Mike Busboom wrote: > >> For years and years, I have lived in Austria, but I grew up in the States >> and have followed the St. Louis Cardinals since I was seven years old. >> Recently, I have been thinking about baseball quite a bit, missing not being >> in the States for the season and wondering if it is possible for a blind >> person to use some sort of app on the iPhone and participate in a fantasy >> baseball league. Hey Brian, Thanks for this info, which was helpful indeed. A friend and I will get together on March 23 to do a draft and as I gain more familiarity with the game using my Macbook, I will gradually try to incorporate my iPhone into the mix as I gain more experience and the app becomes more accessible. Making the Keyboard visible on an iPhone
Hi. I regularly use the Apple bluetooth keyboard with my iPhone 4S and love it. I should also mention that I am running iOS 7.06. Since I use the bluetooth keyboard in edit fields it really speeds up data entry. The problem I am having, however, is getting the keyboard to reappear on the iPhone if I forget to make it visible from the bluetooth keyboard itself. I recently left home without the bluetooth keyboard and before leaving, I had forgotten to hit the key on the upper right corner of the keyboard to make the iPhone virtual keyboard visible. How does one get the keyboard on the iPhone back if there isn't a bluetooth keyboard around to let you invoke the command? Thanks. Re: Making the Keyboard visible on an iPhone
Hello Ricardo and Teresa, I solved the problem and it was Ricardo's caveat that got me thinking. He said: "...If there is no bluetooth keyboard in range, ..." After reading his and Teresa's messages, I double-tapped on an edit field and got the same results I have always gotten thus far. Then, I turned off my bluetooth keyboard and as soon as I double-tapped on the edit field, the keyboard appeared. I read somewhere that the keyboard can be left on for up to six months without any problems. Since I pretty much carry the keyboard with me everywhere I go and it has never been shut off, the problem arose. So the problem was my fault, and it is now behind me. If I want to use the iPhone virtual keyboard, I will make sure that the bluetooth keyboard is turned off first. Thanks, Ricardo and Teresa, for your input. Is There a Slacker Radio equivalent for European listeners?
Hello Everyone, I had a very enjoyable conversation with the folks at Slacker Radio yesterday and am really happy that the app is now accessible. Unfortunately, for me at least, I learned that Slacker Radio is not available here in Central Europe. Had it been, then I would have purchased the Premium subscription and would have been very satisfied. To my knowledge, iTunes Radio still isn't available over here and as I just wrote, nor is Slacker. So I am wondering what music service people over here are using that is both accessible and reasonably priced. I would do 100% of my listening on an iPhone. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Re: Is There a Slacker Radio equivalent for European listeners?
Hello everyone, Based on some of the discussions about my query, I logged on to pandora.com, only to encounter a very courteously-worded note stating that, due to licensing restrictions, Pandora was not available in my country. I have a strong feeling that this applies to many, if not all, EU countries. So that leaves Spotify unless, of course, they are subject to the same licensing restrictions. iTunes radio, or whatever they call it, isn't available over here, either. Oh well, at least the coffee and beer are pretty spectacular here in Vienna! :-) Cheers, Mike On 13,Mar,2014, at 6:03 PM, Chris Blouch wrote: > I wonder if the AOL Radio app is available in the UK. Re: best batteries for Apple bluetooth keyboard...
Hi. I am using Alkaline batteries and have been for four months now. Recently, I took them out of the keyboard, just to find out how well charged they were, and according to my battery tester, they were still very, very full. While I can't know for sure, I can't help but wonder if rechargeable batteries wouldn't discharge before the keyboard had a chance to run them down. If Apple makes rechargeable batteries for this keyboard, then they probably thought of this. Nevertheless, alkaline batteries are pretty cheap, and I can't complain about their lifespan thus far. Re: Latest Pages for College/Professional Work
Not to complicate things further, now that Window-Eyes comes bundled with MS Office, one might have additional options. I do a lot of commercial editing and the feature I use the most in this endeavor is the "Track Changes" feature which works beautifully with Window-Eyes. Although I love Nisus Writer Pro, I can't use it professionally, because I haven't been able to make the Track Changes features work well enough. Like everyone else in this thread has said, what works best might be dictated by the specific tasks you would want to accomplish. Listening to APH Interview on the Mac
Hi. I subscribe to an excellent weekly publication with which some of you may be familiar. It is called "Flying Blind." In the most recent publication, I read the following: B) At APH, they held a conversation with long-time audio book narrator Nitzi Friedlander: http://www.tcdocumentcenter.com/archives/rse86655772cc2/Mitzib.friedlander/ When I went to that link using my MacBook, I was unable to figure out a way to listen to the interview. Although there was an option to download the Adobe Flash Player, I didn't try to do so since it is my understanding that Apple doesn't support it. If I want to listen to this interview using my Mac, how would this be accomplished? Thank you. Getting multilingual voices back after upgrading to Mavericks
Hello Everyone, I just upgraded to Mavericks and I am experiencing some of the same things that others have encountered and mentioned on the list. VoiceOver is very choppy, and I really hope that this problem doesn't stick with me forever. I am having another problem, however, where I could use some insight. I am unable to switch between German and English though when I cycle through the voice options using the Control-Option-Command combination, along with the arrow keys, the German voices are there. However, when their names are announced, they are done so using Alex and his American pronunciation. I am unable to get my Mac to speak German with the proper German pronunciation. Does anyone have any ideas about how to address this issue? Thanks. Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. Re: Getting multilingual voices back after upgrading to Mavericks
Hi, Anne, Sorry for not getting back to you in a more expeditious manner. VoiceOver is barely working, but as a very helpful friend on this list has encouraged me to do, I will try to remain relaxed and focused. The German voices I have are from Infovox. I never used the German VoiceOver voices. how would I get them, and what do I need to do to get the Infovox voices to "speak" German again? Secondly and unfortunately, I just installed the upgrade over what I was previously, which was Mountain Lion. I can't repair permissions because I get no response from VO when I click on a lot of the buttons, even when they are the default selection. I may just bring my Mac to the Apple store, along with my Time Machine Capsule. It took me a very long time to even write this simple note, because VO frequently just stops talking for several minutes at a time. However, stopping, and then re-starting VO works some of the time, when VO isn't turning itself off while I write. It's odd. Sometimes when I am writing, the Mac suddenly says: "VoiceOver off." I have a feeling that the problems will go away, once permissions have been repaired. Kindest regards, and please excuse the typos and mistakes! Re: Getting multilingual voices back after upgrading to Mavericks
Hello Anne, Thank you very much for your response. I have what might be a naive question, so please bare with me and be forgiving. You wrote: "If you have access to another Mac, you should download Mavericks to that one without installing it, then make a bootable USB key with which to reinstall Mavericks on your own machine." Does this mean that I will always need to reboot from this external source? If not, once I have booted from it, is my next step to repair permissions, or somehow attempt to do an entire re-install? Bluetooth Barcode Scanners and Digit-Eyes
Hi. Sometimes when I use Digit-Eyes, it takes me forever to find the barcode. For me, this greatly reduces the utility of a program that I think is really good. I have been looking at bluetooth barcode scanners, but I haven't purchased anything yet. Any thoughts? Re: Bluetooth Barcode Scanners and Digit-Eyes
Thank you for supplying this link, Isaac. Have you used this particular scanner with Digit-Eyes and if so, how well does it work? I guess what I am really asking is if it is possible, in principle, to use such scanners with Digit-Eyes. On a similar subject, is it possible to use such devices with other blindness-related apps such as TapTapSee as well. Re: Bluetooth Barcode Scanners and Digit-Eyes
Hi, Erik, It is great to know that Digit-Eyes developers realised that some people would prefer using a barcode scanner as opposed to the iPhone camera. To your knowledge, can this scanner be successfully used for other purposes, or is it strictly limited to barcode scanning applications? Your input has been very helpful to me; thank you! Using Finder to discover the contents of a CD or DVD
Hi everyone. Is there a way on the Mac to insert a CD and not have it automatically launch? I need to explore the contents of several CDs and just using Finder would do great, provided I could do so without the CD or DVD in question automatically beginning to play. Many thanks. More fully utilizing Voice Dream Reader
Greetings from summery Vienna, Austria. Like many people on this list, I use Voice Dream Reader, and I can't say enough good things about the program! However, to my knowledge, it is not possible to use the program as much as I'd like, simply because (if I am properly informed) it is not possible to use Voice Dream Reader to read Kindle, Blio and iBooks. If this assumption is wrong, could someone please set me straight? I dearly love the program and, if I could use it to read all of my books, instead of just the ones I download from Bookshare, I'd be very happy. Is there a Voice Dream Reader discussion group, by the way? My best to all of you, and thanks for any insights. Re: Good iPhone app for recording audio snippets
Hi, Paul, Since I wasn’t looking for a recording app, I almost deleted your message before even reading it. However, I’m very, very glad that I didn’t. I purchased List Recorder from the Austrian app store yesterday and thus far, I am delighted with the app. It was also a real pleasure hearing Neal Ewers once again—a real bonus. In your note, you mentioned that List Recorder recorded in MP3 format. When I went into the settings I was unable to find the setting for MP3 recording rates. Could you let me know, please, if those settings are somewhere, other than the other recording settings where WAV and M4A are options? Another question: I have done virtually no recording with my iPhone 4S. Are the unit’s built-in microphones good enough for decent stereo recordings and, if not, is it possible to use binaural microphones with the unit? Accessible Metronome App for iPhone?
Hi. I am looking for an accessible metronome app for the iPhone. I do not need the metronome for music; I need it for exercising. Re: Accessible Metronome App for iPhone?
Hi, Scott. I downloaded the app and although several of the buttons are unlabelled, the app will do exactly what I want it to do. The app is also free. Another good thing about the app is that it will run while other audio apps are running, provided you launch TempoPerfect last. By the way, the spelling of the app is TempoPerfect. Welcome to the list. I'm still in Vienna after all these years. Mike On 19,Jun,2014, at 21:06, 'David Goldfield' via MacVisionaries wrote: > Hello. Voice Dream Reader and the iTunes option
Hi, everyone, I use Voice Dream Reader all the time for reading material from Bookshare. However, I am wondering how I can use the app to read books from other sources such as iBook offerings. When I select the "Add" option in the Voice Dream app, it appears that one of the options, iTunes, would let me read iBooks that I purchased from the iBook store. Is this the case. I can't really answer this question for myself because I purchased Voice Dream Reader from the app store in the States but thus far, I have only used my Austrian account for purchasing iBooks. Voice Dream Reader is not available in the Austrian store. So put differently, if I start purchasing iBooks from the US store, will I be able to read them with Voice Dream Reader? Kindest regards to all and many thanks, Mike -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "MacVisionaries" group. How accessible is Google Hangouts on an iPhone?
Hello everyone, I just went to a Google page that discussed some of the accessibility features of Hangouts and it would appear, though I haven’t tested this, that Hangouts is reasonably accessible on a Mac. Can anyone tell me how accessible Hangouts is on the iPhone with the Hangouts app that is available on the iOS platform? Re: Online Colegge degrees
Hello Eileen, I really appreciated your message. As you aptly noted, an attentive and competent disabled students department is crucial. Three years ago, I started an online graduate level program at an American university but discontinued it, primarily because the DSS department was unresponsive to suggestions and requests for help that I submitted to them. I have decided to attend a different university in the States, and all of my work will be done online as well. While on a recent trip to the States (I live in Austria) I went to the prospective university, spoke with the faculty and disabilities coordinator and we were able to agree on an approach that will hopefully enable me to finally complete my graduate degree. In order to evaluate the university’s e-learning platform and before registering for any classes, the university has agreed to allow me to audit one class and appoint one or two sighted people who can help me, should any aspect of the university’s e-learning platform be inaccessible. The university is using a platform called Canvas. At the most fundamental level, I guess that it all comes down to a DSS department that wants to see its clients succeed and hard work on the part of the prospective student. Thanks for your insights, Eileen, and good luck on your degree, Sarai, Mike > On 16,Mar,2015, at 19:47, Eileen Misrahi wrote: > > Hello, > > I went through an entire distant learning Master’s program from 2005-2008, > when I received my degree.
