Hello Ricardo and Teresa,

I solved the problem and it was Ricardo's caveat that got me thinking. He
said: "...If there is no bluetooth keyboard in range, ..." After reading his
and Teresa's messages, I double-tapped on an edit field and got the same
results I have always gotten thus far. Then, I turned off my bluetooth
keyboard and as soon as I double-tapped on the edit field, the keyboard
appeared.

I read somewhere that the keyboard can be left on for up to six months without
any problems. Since I pretty much carry the keyboard with me everywhere I go
and it has never been shut off, the problem arose. So the problem was my
fault, and it is now behind me. If I want to use the iPhone virtual keyboard,
I will make sure that the bluetooth keyboard is turned off first.

Thanks, Ricardo and Teresa, for your input.

Mike
