Hello Eileen, I really appreciated your message. As you aptly noted, an attentive and competent disabled students department is crucial. Three years ago, I started an online graduate level program at an American university but discontinued it, primarily because the DSS department was unresponsive to suggestions and requests for help that I submitted to them. I have decided to attend a different university in the States, and all of my work will be done online as well. While on a recent trip to the States (I live in Austria) I went to the prospective university, spoke with the faculty and disabilities coordinator and we were able to agree on an approach that will hopefully enable me to finally complete my graduate degree.
In order to evaluate the university’s e-learning platform and before registering for any classes, the university has agreed to allow me to audit one class and appoint one or two sighted people who can help me, should any aspect of the university’s e-learning platform be inaccessible. The university is using a platform called Canvas. At the most fundamental level, I guess that it all comes down to a DSS department that wants to see its clients succeed and hard work on the part of the prospective student. Thanks for your insights, Eileen, and good luck on your degree, Sarai, Mike > On 16,Mar,2015, at 19:47, Eileen Misrahi <eileen.misr...@gmail.com> wrote: > > Hello, > > I went through an entire distant learning Master’s program from 2005-2008, > when I received my degree.
