Finding a way to delete all Voice Memos at once in order for it to synk to other devices

2014-02-11 Thread Daniel McGee
Hi all, sorry for the long subject line but here's the situation.

I am learning to read braille music and with my teacher we have devised a
method where she will teach me something from the book that we are using which
contains exercises. Then between our lessons, this was my idea. I started using
the Voice Memos app on the iphone to record these exercises in the book convert
them to MP3 using iTunes on my Mac and send them over to her by email. Here's
my problem though, and I hope I'm not alone. It seems once I have recorded a
few exercises to her I can't seem to find a way where I can get rid of all the
Voice memo files in one swoop so to speak. That is, I am having to manually
deleting one by one and this applies to both my iphone and Mac. Tedious as you
can imagine
I just assumed that once I have deleted the files in the Voice Memos playlist
which is the last item in my source list and sync it to the iphone they would
just disappear from there automatically. By the way, once I have converted them
to MP3, I assumed that one would see these converted format along with the
default M4A in my iTunes media folder then the sub-foulder Voice Memos. You
would think? However, the Mp3 versions go into iTunes Media, Music and it
creates a folder called Dan's iPhone which is my iPhone's name, finally into
Voice Memos and the Mp3 versions are located here. I know this isn't
particularly related to my main question but I just wanted to know is this
normal once you converted them to MP3?

I Should point out that my teacher uses Windows and we did try using the M4A
extension but for whatever reason she wasn't able to open it. Anyway, MP3 is
what I would consider the norm for universal cross-listening as it were.

Very sorry for the long message but I just wanted to make sure that the
situation was understood and adding a little background to why I am applying it
in the first place.
OSX Mavericks 10.9.1 and IOS 7.0.4 is what I'm using.

I look forward to any responses.

Thanking you

Daniel

2014-02-11 Thread Kawal Gucukoglu
Well, that is co-incidental, I too am learning Braille Music and sent a file to
my music teacher but not using memos. I don't think she will be able to open
the file as it's M4a too. Hope your memo situation gets resolved.

Kawal.

Give you view a look. It's similar to mactubes, but in my experience more
accessible, and you can do more than just search for videos. Another thing to
try is installing click to flash into safari which should make the youtube

how to delete ann iTunes library

2014-02-11 Thread Scott Berry
Hello there,

A couple questions about the library.

1. How do you delete the library?

2. How do I ensure that none of the check boxes are checked once the library
is imported?

Thanks a bunch.

Hi all,

Ever since upgrading to Mavericks, every time I reboot my MBA--which is much
more often than it used to be--I'm prompted to enter the password for an Apple
ID I changed a couple of years ago. Anyone know how I can make that stop?
thanks,

networking

2014-02-11 Thread Caitlyn and Maggie
Hi,
I am trying to network all my macs and one pc together on our home network.

so far, from my i mac and from my mac book air, I can see all the other
machines, but when I select them after doing command shift k, the resulting
folders are empty.

I do have file sharing turned on on both the i mac and the MBA.

What do I need to do to make it so I can get files off the i mac onto the MBA
via the networking function? Likewise, how can my husband network his pc to my
macs?

Thanks!
Caitlyn

Stopping Mail from speaking subject and preview window of every message being download

This is really driving me nuts! I need to stop mail speaking every message

Thanks,

I assume you mean the Notifications Center? If so, open the Notifications
Center, ope the preferences with the button you'll find, select Mail in the
table of apps, and disable it from appearing. That should prevent it from

Hello List,

I'm Jenine Stanley from Columbus, Ohio. I've been using adaptive computer
equipment since 1988 but got my first Mac, an MBP, about a month ago.

I'm doing some word processing and want to resume audio editing and production
with this machine. My husband is also getting an iMac this week. He is a
combination large print and speech user and I am totally blind.

Looking forward to tons of good info here. Thanks all.

Anyone out there using the MicroWave audio editor? I have a couple

I'm a Sound forge user from the PC world so am very familiar with audio editing

readily apparent to me. Any help would be hugely appreciated.

id use the VO quick start guide at first but have been using VO on my iPhone

I do find myself going back over sections of the VO help materials and each

iTunes radio and resetting stations to default

2014-02-11 Thread Tim Emmons
Hi guys, just curious. How does one if there is a way, delete likes and such
from the iTunes Radio stations, and reset history to basically start from
scratch. I know Pandora has their seed sand such hidden and hard to get too,
but I hear iTunes radio is easier to do that with but not sure how to do that.
I'm finding some really finding a few things that are at least catching my
attention if not winning me over completely. I'm curious to know what everybody
else's thoughts are on iTunes radio, just in general. I have a lot to keep me
entertained during the day while I work, but I've always been curious about
everybody's thoughts as to Tunes Radio. It is accessible but I could go on for
hours about pros and cons of all of them, lol. Thanks and take care y'all. Hope
everybody is doing well.

Re: Stopping Mail from speaking subject and preview window of every message being download

2014-02-11 Thread alia robinson
I think people confuse what some of us mean. I for one am not talking about a
"notification" I am talking about when I am in the preview or the body of a
message, and it continually says "one row added" that is nothing to do with do
not disturb or notifications, and there is no fix for it, and it didn't used to
happen before mavericks. It is maddening, and I hate it. If the op did indeed
mean something else then I apologize, but this one row added thing is just
inane.

Have you tried enabling syncing on your iPhone? Go to your iPod in the sources
list, go to music in the radio button group. Then Interact with the scroll area
and find the checkbox that says: "sync voice memos". I'm unclear on how iTunes
Match affects this option, since I haven't used Voice memos much, but it's
worth a try.

Re: Stopping Mail from speaking subject and preview window of every message being download

2014-02-11 Thread Daniel Hawkins
I for one use quicknav to navigate thru mail. when I go to the message I want I
hit enter then press the right arrow once, that will start reading the message.
then deinteract and go down or up to read the next message on that thread and
interact it then deinteract. that is my method to bypass the whole who is the
sender title time and embedded embedded.

Welcome to the list. I'm glad you are having such an easy transition - it took
me forever to feel comfortable with Voiceover on the Mac, and even longer to
feel that it is (mostly) better than Windows. Wait... Can you have longer than
forever? Sure, why not? Anyway, welcome aboard, and feel free to ask any
questions you have. I'm sure you already know, but www.applevis.com is a great
resource for Mac material as well as iOS.

Re: How to Navigate Messages Scrollable Region on FB Website?

2014-02-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
Sort of never mind; I discovered the mobile site's messages area, which is much
more doable. I'm still curious if anyone has succeeded in navigating the full
site's messages, though. I've never seen anything like it on any other website.
I feel a rant about Ajax and other not-particularly-blind-friendly website
features coming on, but I will curb it. For now on this list, anyway. :)

If the OP did mean row adding announcements this is nothing new. Ever since
Lion, when I started using the Mac, this has been an annoyance. It isn't just
mail, either - any app where you are focused on a table, and that table gets
updated, will cause Voiceover to speak the information "x row[s] added".

Itunes radio is the best radio app. I use it some times at night or some times
in the morning. To clear you're history just press the clear button on the
history section of the app.

Re: since upgrading to Mavericks I'm being prompted for a password for an inactive Apple ID

2014-02-11 Thread Tim Kilburn
Hi,

That usually happens if your iCloud service is set to use that Apple ID in any
manner. Try going into System Preferences, iCloud and see if that account is
signed in. If it is, then just press on the Sign Out button. If that doesn't
do anything or if that isn't the issue, check under the Internet pane of System
Prefs and see if you can delete that old Apple ID account from there.

Later...

thanks Alex,

Unfortunately, I'm getting a lot of 404 errors on the AppleVis site. This goes

Re: networking

2014-02-11 Thread Chris Blouch
When you select them, how are you doing it? I just hit command-O for
Open on the machine I want to connect to. Initially I get an empty table
list but then it populates with the available shares from that machine.
The trick is that by default it logs you in as a guest which means the
only shares I can access are the public folders for each user. So I have
a "Chris Blouch's Public Folder" as one of the choices. On the remote
machine you can find the public folder by going to that user's Home
folder (command-shift-H) and then you should find a folder called Public
inside there. What you probably want is full access to everything, not
just the public folder. So after you open the computer you want to
connect to, you'll be in a list view table, showing the public shares
available to guests. VO-left once and you'll land on a ConnectAs…
button. Action that and put in the username/password for the remote user
you want to log in as. You'll be dropped back to the same button but now
it will read "Disconnect" and if you VO-right you'll be back to the list
view table but there will be some additional entries. One is, for my
machine, the cblouch folder which is my home folder. The other is
Macintosh HD which is the entire hard drive. Usually all I want is my
home folder. Select that and you should have full access over the
network to the files in your home folder on the remote machine. Note
that if you have the same username on multiple machines, as I do, it can
sometimes get confusing as to which Documents or Desktop folder I'm in
as they are similar layouts.

What do I need to do to make it so I can get files off the i mac onto the MBA

Yes, write them. I am doing that. IMO it makes reading my tons of mail
impossible because I am constantly being stopped to hear one row added. enter
is a workaround, but enter doesn't automatically interact with text, and if I
forget to do it and want to review text I am not in the field to do that.

I suppose my first question is why would you want to? VO shift space twice
seems to add more keystrokes, even though maybe not necessarily much more time,

Just curious what purpose this would serve.

6 or 8 dot braille for brf files

2014-02-11 Thread Greg Aikens
Hello all,
I have a BRF question. When reading a brf in text edit, I turn off automatic
braille translation. As far as I can tell, I have to use 8 dot braille for the
brf to be represented correctly. Is there a way to read a brf file in 6 dot
braille correctly? Currently, when I uncheck the 8 dot braille box, it does
funky things like adding a number sign in front of lower cell symbols so that
the en sign becomes number sign 5 etc.

Anything I can do?

Thanks.

Re: 6 or 8 dot braille for brf files

2014-02-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Greg,

You need to read these in eight-dot Braille. Brf files are in upper-case
characters, so in order to read them without the dot-7 appearing below each
character, you will need to select all your text with command-a, then go into
the edit menu, transformations, and change the text to lower-case. It's
possible at this point that you could try six-dot Braille, but once you
transform the text to lower-case, I don't think it makes any difference.

I like that And, I found out you can go station by station if you like and
clear out your likes or whatever and start from scratch, but they don't offer a
clear all on that one yet, but it's doable. I'm finding things, and I may be
the only one thus far, but I'm finding things more and more, that I'm really
starting to enjoy about iTunes Radio the more I'm digging into it, and it's ten
dollars cheaper a year if you subscribe to Match, than Pandora, so that's an
attention getter too. Plus, ease of use to like or dislike from my control
center or lock screen, streams on my apple Tv, and a 27 million song library as
opposed to a million in Pandora, and 20 Million in Spotify or thereabouts from
what I've been looking at. I'm finding it more and more, nice, Lol. But, that's
just me. I'm curious to know what everybody else thinks. Take care and have a

need to look at that, just cause, Lol. happy listening guys.

Jenine,

It's CJ of CJ & Surnow fame from many moons ago @ GDD. I'm glad to see you on
the list. I hope you & Kent are well. Also, glad to see another fellow

Anyway, glad to hear you're still kick'n,

Thanks for this tip Teresa. That made things much more readable. Incidentally,
when I tried 6 dot braille after the transformation, it still made similar
mistakes. It almost looks as though automatic translation gets turned on if you
try and read in 6 dot braille. I don't know why that would be so.

Re: Printopia

2014-02-11 Thread Kayaker
Hi,

Both your iPad and Mac have the same first three numbers in their IP address,
correct? Your Mac isn't 192.168. while the iPad is 10.0. something?

And you get to the point in the process on the iPad where it says something
like No air print printers found? It is a multi step process to actually get to
the print button.

I do not run it myself, but was able to set it up for someone else, fairly
easily. Your Mac has to be on, the printer has to be on, the printer needs to
be shared in printopia system preferences, and you have to be on the same
subnet. Not sure what else to tell you to try.

Can you contact Applevis with examples of these broken links? Use the contact
form on the website, and your message will go to the entire website team so
they can have a look at what is going on. Sometimes, pages will be taken down
if they are deemed to be breaking rules (such as discussions of
not-yet-released iOS or OSX updates). Podcasts should all be working, though,
so any non-working links you can find would be good to know about. Thank you.

No, that's not a dumb question. Go to the status menus and it is in

Keyboard Shortcuts, and choose "I am pretty sure) Mission Control from the
table. The Notifications Center should be one of the options in the next table,

Re: notification center

2014-02-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
Hi, Jenine,

the notification center is one item in the status menus. You can reach the
status menus with Vo-m twice or control-f8 (the non-VO, standard way) as well.
You'll land on the last item you worked with in the status menus. The
notification center is within the menus and manages notifications from various
applications. It's handy too have a keyboard shortcut just to get to the
notification center itself, especially if you do a lot of social networking or
if you have various automated tasks or updates.

working with PDF files

2014-02-11 Thread Jenine Stanley
Not sure how many of you do a lot with PDF files but let me describe a
situation I deal with in the Windows environment and let's see if there's
anything comparable on the Mac side.

I have Acrobat Pro and with it I can render some PDF files with forms usable
with the accessibility settings.

Is there an equiviliant app for the Mac? I have PDF Reader Pro but I don't see
any accessibility options to put in form fields and such.

any wisdom on this would be greatly appreciated.

Installing windows 7 home premium into vm fision from an iso

2014-02-11 Thread Shannon Gerdts

Hello everyone,
Ok so I purchased a new macbook pro 13" for my wife's birthday. We're
now wanting to see about installing windows onto her macbook using fusion
since that will allow her to run windows and her mac OS side by side so that
she can switch between the two and run applications as needed. However, I'm
trying to do some searches for doing such a thing since the newest macbook
pros no longer come with an optical drive so I'm not sure how to go about
this task using an iso.
I did manage to get ahold of the windows 7 version I have in an iso form
but would love to get some feedback on how I go about using this iso and
installing it into fusion.
I want to thank all of you for any help on this matter ahead of time as
it will be tremendously appreciated from the both of us.

Take care,
Shannon Gerdts

I did that recently, and it's really simple. You create a new VM, choose to
install from existing file or CD, then navigate to the iso when you are
prompted to open the location of the Windows install disk or file. Pressing
enter launches the process, and Windows installs. That's all there is to it!

Accessable Keyboard Tutorial?

hello everyone!

As part of my goal to to train others how to use the Mac, one thing my future

question is, do you guy know a simple free app for the Mac that can teach you
how to keyboard? I already tried to check out Appleton and I have not found
anything.

Thanks!

You will need sighted help. Voiceover can handle installations of mac operating

Re: Installing windows 7 home premium into vm fision from an iso

2014-02-11 Thread don bishop
Alex,
I thought you could install windows itself without sighted help. Of course,
you'd need help with installing speech unless you're familiar with the
keystrokes to get your speech going.
Isn't this how it works? Thinking of doing it here.
Thanks,
Don

Hi Jeanine,
I think there is an app called pdf pen which might do the stuff you need.

Re: Installing windows 7 home premium into vm fision from an iso

2014-02-11 Thread Alex Hall
If you don't have speech, you are sort of stuck. VMWare can do some
configuration, but I installed it once and had to just press enter, and another
time it prompted for a whole bunch of settings. Both were Windows 7, both on
virtual machines. Once you are up and running, you can launch Narrator and use
that to get a real screen reader installed, though the process is horribly
tedious. I find it much simpler to just have a sighted person click through
everything, then grab NVDA from www.nvda-project.org and install it. Once I
have that, I'm all set, but up to that point it is much easier and error-free
to have sighted help.

Re: Hilarious Gmail with Mac Mail issues

2014-02-11 Thread Brian Fischler
The hilarity of using gmail with mac mail has reached new levels. I have quit
mail to get it to update and still after six hours of receiving gmail on my
phone mac mail hasn't received it. Additionally almost every time I hit enter
to open a message nothing happens and I have to use the window chooser menu to
view the message. I'm hoping to be able to do a clean install next weekend, as
this entire situation with mac mail is sad.

How about deleting the mail you don't need in the all mail folder ¬of your
gmail account and then confirm that action again once they have been sent
to the trash which will in turn completely wipe them from the G mail

This is just a suggestion mind and you have may already tried it but if
not go ahead assuming you haven't already deleted the account and see if
that produces better performing results with Mail and G mail.

 Hi, Greg,

You need to read these in eight-dot Braille. Brf files are in upper-case
characters, so in order to read them without the dot-7 appearing below
each character, you will need to select all your text with command-a, then
go into the edit menu, transformations, and change the text to lower-case.
It's possible at this point that you could try six-dot Braille, but once
you transform the text to lower-case, I don't think it makes any
 difference.

Re: 6 or 8 dot braille for brf files

2014-02-11 Thread Teresa Cochran
What are you trying to do, Jessica. Are you just wanting to show a sighted
person what Braille looks like? If a braille font is used, it will make a
visual representation of Braille. You might want to start a different thread on
this topic, as it doesn't relate to using braille on a Braille display.

OT: New Twitter and Bible.is for iPhone

2014-02-11 Thread Daniel C
Twitter fir iPhone
I realize that this is off-topic, but I couldn't figure out where else to ask.
Has anyone had issues to where, if you started the new twitter iPhone app, it
only says welcome to Twitter and shows no tabs like home, etc?
It also says discover new timelines, and shows nothing else.
Bible.is
Does anyone have the app called Bible. Is?
I ask because I cannot figure out how to retweet bible verses from that app. If
anyone has that app, I'd appreciate help with it as well.
Thanks.

Reading Text By Paragraph

2014-02-11 Thread Barry Hadder
Howdy,

In the Voiceover documentation, there are keys for reading paragraphs.
vo-p reads current.
vo-shift-PageDown reads next.
vo-shift-PageUp reads previous.

I seem to be unable to get any of these to work in textedit. I'm wondering if
anyone else has been able to use these functions successfully.
Thanks.

Exporting stuff as midi?

2014-02-11 Thread Sarah Sackville McLauchlan
Hi all!

Does anyone know if it's possible to export songs from Garage-Band or LogicPro
as midi files? Obviously I"m talking about songs created using only software
instruments, not any live tracks. But is there a way, then, to export the
entire song as a midi file so that a sighted editor can import it into Finale,
for example? If anyone knows and can help, I'd be hugely grateful! I'm
working on an arrangement of a song for my choir, so I need to be able to share
my notation with the guy who's going to help me get it all into correct scoring
format with dynamics and lyrics and all that. Anyway, thanks in advance!

I've beeen experimenting with the latest version of twitter for the iphone. I
finally figured out how to get to your timeline and past the intro screen.
When the intro screen comes up, turn voiceover off and then swipe to the
right. Finally turn voiceover back on again and you can read your tweets.
Not sure just how accessible this version of the app with vo, but at least it's
a start.

What I did was to let the twitter app load until I got that welcome screen.
That's when I turned vo off and swiped to the right. Not sureif youhave to
swipe 1 or 2 times, but then turn vo back on and you should be able to tap on
the screen to make things happen.
Kind of confusing, bit it worked for me.

Re: spl with fusion

2014-02-11 Thread May and Noah
Ok, maybe I have it set up wrong. So how about we start there and work our way
up/ *smiles*

How I have the headset right now is the usb is seen by both the mac and fusion.
so goth sides come through the headset. Under the usb setting though I don't
have the usb headset connected. When I tell it to connect both mac and fusion
switch over to the mac speakers. At this time the mac side know longer sees the
headset. The moment I tell jaws to then switch to the headset I lose jaws
unless I disconnect the headset.

Hope that made sense?

Are there any that use spl on their macs through fusion?

If so, is there a way to make it so that jaws will keep coming through my
headset and the music through the speakers?

I'm using a USB headset and if I change the output on the macs side it
makes everything on the windows side come through the speakers.

Re: Hilarious Gmail with Mac Mail issues

2014-02-11 Thread Paul Mimms
I have noticed after not receiving messages in mail for some time, that in
Mail, Preferences, Accounts, that the default has switched to iCloud.
Switching back to gmail as the selected account resumes message receipt, but I
have no idea why it switched in the first place.

 Hi,

The problem with deleting items from the All Mail portion of Gmail is that
when you delete a message from the All Mail, it deletes it from
everywhere. So, for example, if you've kept specific messages and moved
them to other folders, they stay in the All Mail area and Gmail labels
them so that they are also available in the other location. Deleting them
from All Mail consequently deletes them from the other location or
locations as well. This could be extremely bad if those messages contain
 important information.

 Brian,

How about you try disabling your Gmail account temporarily while doing
your project. Go into Mail Prefs, select Accounts from the Toolbar,
select your Gmail account from the Accounts Table then uncheck the
"Enable this Account" checkbox. Now, with your Gmail account
disabled, you should be able to do your work, receive Mail from other
accounts, and you can re-enable it when you need it again and it
 doesn't affect your project.

Re: Reading Text By Paragraph

Hello Barry,

You need to have TextEdit set to Wrap to window for these commands to work.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: Mactubes not working after clean install

2014-02-11 Thread BBS
Hey Alex and others. After investigating the app, I found that there was no way
to download a video unless that save option does it but I somehow doubt it. So
I think I'll still use Mactubes unless someone can correct me if I'm wrong.

Give you view a look. It's similar to mactubes, but in my experience more
accessible, and you can do more than just search for videos. Another thing
to try is installing click to flash into safari which should make the
youtube site not suck as much.
