Bug#302287: www.debian.org: Link of dev-ref is broken in japanese html
Yooseong Yang schrieb: Package: www.debian.org Severity: normal In http://www.nl.debian.org/doc/devel-manuals#devref, Japanes html link is broken. WWW master must check it out and correct it. Yeah, I'm aware of this and sent a Makefile patch to the maintainer last weekend. IIRC the last note to Japanese files was to remove it, since it is outdated but the links on the website are still there ... I would like to see even outdated files, it's no problem to add a remark "File is outdated" to the file or website. I also miss PS, PDF and text documents. Yes, you're right, it only occurs in old pages. Nevertheless it's hard to fix all references to News/weekly/1999/14/index#logo since I do not know how to find these. Please note that I only have write permission to Debian CVS and not to all other archives and documents in the world. It would also not solve the problem that a few anchors such as "logo" are reserved even for new documents. It is much simpler to change the div "logo" id, since it is only used for CSS (and only by debian.css). Jens -- To UNSUBSCRIBE, email to [EMAIL PROTECTED] with a subject of "unsubscribe". Trouble? Not every translator prefers the encoding used by the website language team. I really suggest that all language teams search for such bogus strings. German language uses only the following 8bit characters: ä, ö, ü (and capitals), ß I check from time to time that these are used in latin1 encoding only and fixed errors already a few times (but not very often). A similar situation exists when latin1 characters (mostly in names) from Debian Weekly News are directly used (copy-and-paste) without noticing that it may be necessary to adapt these (such as in Japanese texts, ...). Re: maint-guide update: final confirmation before upload
Hi, www-master seems to have problems building Korean PS, PDF documents. Please note that this is fixed since many weeks and should work like a charm. It was asked by Osamu to update the debiandoc-sgml package on www-master to version to 1.1.86. Such an update is possible [1] and happened already in the past (thanks Joey). Even without this update it should work (also in Woody) using an ugly workaround from quick-reference but I want to remove bin/fixlatex, ... and need further help (see below). I'm not sure about the version you translated, it's either revision 1.2 or 1.3. You should read http://www.debian.org/devel/website/ for details. Please note that I changed a few line breaks (a line should not consist of more than approx. 76 characters) and changed the file from DOS to Unix mode (\n instead of \r\n). I also changed "città" into "città" since à is not valid (but à is). Again thanks, I hope you will translate more ... Jens

PATCH: consistent usage of names in website
Hi all, I noticed that "Raphael Hertzog" is used beside "Raphaël" in Debians website. I contacted Raphaël and he replied that there doesn't exist a person called Raphael: I don't know any other Raphael Hertzog in Debian and in the world ... :) note however that I used it without "ë" but with "e" on my GPG Key. It's always me afaik. I provide a patch to fix most of these strings. It would be nice if someone could apply it (I don't have write permissions). Using the smart_change.pl script from CVS you can create the patch file patch1 (so either execute the next commands or apply patch1): grep -rl "Raphael Hertzog" english/ | egrep '\.wml$' | \ grep -v 'News/weekly/1999/20/mail' | xargs > /tmp/Hertzog.files ./smart_change.pl -l russian -l chinese -l japanese -l korean \ -s 's/Raphael Hertzog/Raphaël Hertzog/g' $(cat /tmp/Hertzog.files) ./smart_change.pl -s 's/Raphael Hertzog/Raphaël Hertzog/g' \ $(cat /tmp/Hertzog.files) This updates english/ and all translations as well. I tested it (especially related to encoding) and it works well. You should also apply minor-stuff.diff which fixes wrong encodings in translations. Jens ? .Raphael.swp ? Hertzog.Dateien ? Too many useless files in CVS
Hi, I noticed that many files in the webwml module are unused and there's no link to it. Most of these files are no .wml files and I suggest to remove these. The current size of this CVS module is 185MB! One example is french/international/french/translations/securing-debian-manual-fr.sgml which is a copy of the ddp/manuals.sgml/securing-howto/securing-debian-howto.fr.sgml file from the (old) DDP. Similar: chinese/international/Chinese/debian-doc/FAQ/compat.sgml Even in english/ are unused files such as english/intro/businesses.wml.wrk which starts with THIS IS A PROPOSED PAGE. DO NOT TRANSLATE. DO NOT CREATE A business.wml PAGE OR THE MAKEFILE WILL TRY TO GENERATE AN HTML FILE FROM IT and the last modification was in 1998! I suggest that all translation coordinators should check files in the corresponding directory. Jens
Minor typos in english and portuguese

PS: I know that translation coordinators are responsible for typos, etc. in translations. Exists a similar person for English stuff so that there's no need to report this to this list? Jens

Broken link to New Maintainers' Corner
Hi all, I recently fixed many wrong links in translations which I compared against URLs from english/. One of these URLs is in News/weekly/2003/13/index.wml and should link to Debian New Maintainers' Corner, where it's possible to become a Debian Developer in only 3 days. This issue of DWN was published at April 1st, 2003 and is a joke, nevertheless it would be nice to fix the URL. The french team used [1] http://bli.melix.com.mx/~bli/newmaint.html instead of [2] http://people.debian.org/~andreas/newmaint.html and [1] seems to be OK. (Accept that it refers to translations of this page which are in reality translations of www.debian.org/devel/join/newmaint.en.html.) Can someone change this? Jens

Proper quotes in website including DSAs
Hi, I notice from time to time that still old quoting style using "..." is used on the Debian website. Especially Debian security anouncements are affected. Please use ... instead as this is handled by CSS and language dependent. I fixed this hopefully everywhere I spotted it. I do not remember but even nested quotes may be supported this way.
Ralph probably forgot a "apt-get update" but nevertheless the following APT source does no longer exist: deb http://non-us.debian.org/debian-non-US proposed-updates/non-US main contrib non-free Does anyone know a mirror for Woody and other (older?) systems? Also the usage of deb http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian proposed-updates main contrib non-free in hour site is bad as it refers now probably to Etch whereas it referred in the past to Woody. We should use code names instead. Where are currently proposed updates for Woody? http://ftp.us.debian.org/debian/dists/ lists sarge-proposed-updates/, etch-proposed-updates/, lenny-proposed-updates/, oldstable-proposed-updates/ but no woody-proposed-updates/ or oldoldstable-proposed-updates/ :-) Even http://archive.debian.org/dists/ misses woody-proposed-updates/ but provides {hamm,potato,slink}-proposed-updates. > Would it make sense to update some links to old releases to point to > http://archive.debian.org/? Could it be a change in the cvs version since the upgrade to Etch? You're right, it needs to be fixed. There are also some other DSAs where I assumed it was needed but it wasn't as clear (multiple overflows were considered as a single problem which could be OK) as in this example.
