Better yet DEB_HOST_ARCH_BITS. :)

Actually I had some discussion about exporting the wordsize and
endianness few months ago on #debian-dpkg with Hector Oron.

So I've done some preliminary coding, something like this could do,
after some cleanup:

Thinking about it now, probably easier for people to spell
DEB_HOST_ARCH_ENDIAN rather than DEB_HOST_ARCH_ENDIANNESS, though.

Hi, I just wanted to report that this bug also exists for simple notebooks with
overlapping screens (using the free driver for ATI Radeons). On both the
external and (if you open laptop) the internal monitor, GNOME has the described
problem displaying the top panel. Greets!

many people use bind and this is not a problem. could you please get
some debug output and attach it to the bug report? see the
README.Debian for how to do this.

Bug#534908: possibly symlink attack due to client-connect script

2009-06-28 Thread martin f krafft
Package: openvpn
Version: 2.1~rc15-1
Severity: important
Tags: security

OpenVPN's --client-connect option is described as follows:

   --client-connect script
Run script on client connection. The script is passed the
common
name and IP address of the just-authenticated client as
environmen-
tal variables (see environmental variable section below).
The
script is also passed the pathname of a not-yet-created
temporary
file as $1 (i.e. the first command line argument), to be used
by
the script to pass dynamically generated config file
directives
  back to OpenVPN.

Since the script and it's argument should be visible in the process
table, and client connect scripts might just be simple shell
scripts, it could be possible for an attacker to launch a symlink
attack:

  1. monitor process table for connect script
  2. create symlink, e.g. to overwrite /etc/shadow
  3. watch the connect script clobber /etc/shadow

I don't think this is a big threat, it's a problem that can easily
be solved by using a proper tempfile (and ensuring that it gets
deleted when no longer needed).

so we were discussing the script we use to set the svn-bp props, after
I got confused because my svn-upgrade was going crazy, and the cause was
that gregoa hadn't ran the script yet that day. an option to svn-inject
to set the props correctly for us would be nice.

16:33 < gregoa> Ryan52: what I'd really like is some way to do it automatically

This is probably completely unrelated; have a look at bug #533917.

I’d appreciate if people could UPGRADE THEIR PACKAGES before reporting
bugs. This is especially true for testing users.

Bug#534911: subnet topology requires static client subnet routes

2009-06-28 Thread martin f krafft
Package: openvpn
Version: 2.1~rc15-1
Severity: normal
Tags: upstream

(Copied from http://openvpn.net/archive/openvpn-users/2007-08/msg00145.html)

With the default mode (the implicit "topology net30") I used to do this to
assign static routes towards a given client:

$ cat /etc/openvpn/ccd/some-client
iroute 10.20.1.0 255.255.255.0
iroute 10.250.0.0 255.255.255.0
$ cat /etc/openvpn/server.conf
[...]
route 10.20.1.0 255.255.255.0
route 10.250.0.0 255.255.255.0
[...]

When the tunnel was established, the static routes were set towards that
particular client. Everything worked fine.

With "topology subnet" it doesn't seem to work, as 'route' now needs
a gateway argument. However, the IP of the connecting client is not
known, and neither 'route' nor 'client-connect' can be used in the
client-config-dir file (where iroute is used).

Subnet topology is a great step forward, but it's currently not
usable in situations where clients connect subnets to the server.

The best solution would be to allow 'route' directives in the
per-client config files in client-config-dir.

Bug#534912: IMAP folder names having a dot (.) treated incorrectly

2009-06-28 Thread Stanislav Maslovski
Package: mutt
Version: 1.5.20-2
Severity: normal

I upgraded mutt from 1.5.18 to 1.5.20 and noticed the following change
in the behaviour. If an IMAP folder name has a dot (.) mutt replaces
this dot with a slash (/) when requesting the IMAP server for the folder.
I see this with my Google Mail account. I have a lot of folders with
names like

list.debian-russian
list.debian-devel

etc.

In the list of folders Mutt displays these folder names correctly, but
when I try to select one (for ex., list.debian-russian), I see this
in the status line:

Selecting list/debian-russian...

and then

Unknown Mailbox: list/debian-russian (Failure)

So, that's it.

According to the error message, it is surely the proper fix.
What puzzles me, is that I don't get the error in Debian, can you
please tell me more about your configuration? In particular, which
Python version are you using during building? Also, it would be nice
if you mention the version of all the build-dependencies of the
package.

Thanks for the report,
Cheers.

(Okay, actually this is not what happened when updating to 5.0.2…
everything else installed fine, but linux-image-2.6.26-2-ixp4xx is

Sorry about this. I have sent an email to the upstream author asking

I'm now on another network and I cannot reproduce the bug here.
It could be a combination of several problems.

Note that *only* apt-listbugs was affected by the problem. In
particular, reportbug (which also queries for bugs) did not have
any problem.

In any case, instead of freezing, apt-listbugs should output some
information on what's going on.

You can always do that, yes. But I guess the best would be to install

But not all configure scripts generate a Makefile either.

A valid solution may be to provide a variable that allows specifying the stamp
file. But the default has to stay config.status.

I can assure you there isn't code in apt-listbugs that purposely
freezes. unless you can help us with this, we can't fix the bug.
sorry. perhaps you have your apt stuff configured to use a proxy?
reportbug probably won't respect this, but apt-listbugs does.

Hi Guido,

It looks mostly fine but:
- you should add some comments explaining the new columns in cputable
- the parsing in Dpkg::Arch should also support the 3 column format and
not only the 5 columns one as the cputable is in dpkg and the parsing
code in dpkg-dev and both need not be in sync...

JFTR:

http://git.grml.org/?p=live-initramfs-grml.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/06_support_fromiso_isofrom.dpatch;hb=HEAD
http://git.grml.org/?p=live-initramfs-grml.git;a=blob;f=debian/patches/07_support_findiso.dpatch;hb=HEAD

should basically do what you want.

Do I understand it right that the partedmagic live system doesn't
require *any* additional bootoptions at all to boot the ISO directly
from USB (running losetup & CO on it's own)?

You mention it in your blog article
http://wiki.hands.com//howto/ultimate-usb-stick/#gettingdebian-livetorun
already, but JFTR: grub2 with loopback option doesn't have the
fragmentation problem (though grub2 was/is kind of broken in current
Debian/unstable).

What systems do you have that support USB-ZIP only?

I'll take the RFA bug, set the perl group to the owner, and inject it
into the repostiory. but there's no reason to prepare an upload
(afaict), so I'll just leave the ITA bug open, and leave it in our
repo so we will notice when there is a reason to upload it. Is this
ok with you? If you want me to, I will prepare an upload just to update
the packaging and the Maintainer: field, tho we usually don't do this.

Bug#480887: marked as done (stable version outdated and ancient, several security issues)

2009-06-28 Thread J.M.Roth
I did, and ignoring the new releases it shows at the top
"Security alert. Local file inclusion bug. More info here, fixed release
available. [18]"

So that is fixed already too?
I guess one would simply need to remove these warnings in the packages?

Ok at the core this is not a LyX problem. LyX uses the hyperref package
to create the links in the output.
According to the hyperref docs[1] you've to set "breaklinks=true".

In LyX you can achieve that by going to Document->Settings->PDF Properties->
enable the "Use Hyperref support" check box -> Tab Hyperlinks -> checkbox
"Break links over lines".

The result is that the exportet TeX file has the settings made but the link
in the pdf is still not wraped here. Maybe you can comfirm that on your system
aswell.

This will require some more digging through documentation and bugtracker to
find the root of the problem.

Hi
The find tool in pcmanfm doesn't find all the files it is supposed to find.
For example if in /etc I seek all the files that match fs* (case unsensitive),

This is a bit tricky. According to #3674 [1] in the LyX bugtracker you
should see an instant preview so that you can adjust the scaling while
having the insert dialog still open. Currently this doesn't work on Linux.

After all this is still not exactly what you've asked for. A bit more in this
direction is #2151 [2] which asks for an automatic scaling factor setting.

One more in the same direction is #2200 [3]. Still not exactly what you asked
for but I guess this is very close if you get some automatic scaling that
adjusts to your current screen size.

I'm unsure which one fits best here or if I should forward this in a new
report.
Any recommendations?

Bug#531992: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#531992: lyx: Does not wrap or format hyperlinks

2009-06-28 Thread Alex Dănilă

Hi,
thank you for the attention. I was actually curios why the "Break links"
option does not give the effect.
I confirm, the Tex file contains "breaklinks=true" but the pdf does not
wrap the link.

Best wishes,
:) Alex

I am upstream and there was no public upstream URL at that time.
It can now be found at

Actually I used this as the long description, the short description is:

Severity: wishlist

Please include the IPv6 patch from [1]. Unless IPv6 support is actually
used, it should behave exactly like the unpatched version, so no

dbndns already includes an IPv6 patch from the same author (thus tinydns
is able to listen to IPv6 addresses) but without a patched ucspi-tcp
axfrdns (the TCP counterpart of tinydns) won't be able to listen to IPv6

Oh, this is missing in the package description. curl can use https and the

Thanks for the report.

For me only the OffScreenEngine doesn't work, but the regular mode
works fine and I am able to see the popup window.

I have forwarded your report upstream:

2009-06-28 Thread Hendrik Sattler

Version: 1:9-6-1

Hi,

The closed-source part calls a function called pci_enable_msi(). However, on
linux-2.6.30, this is only a define. Thus while loading the module, the symbol
cannot be found.

Either this should be forwarded upstream or a small wrapper could look like:

#undef pci_enable_msi
int pci_enable_msi (struct pci_dev *dev) {
return pci_enable_msi_block(dev, 1);

#endif

Have fun

Thanks for this.

Unfortunately, it seems to have caused me a few other problems.

ia32-libs now installs ia32-libs-tools, was this the case before? It
seems to need a ton of packages now (I only want to run 32 bit skype).

So I've had to update the APT cache size to cope with this.

Also when installing ia32-apt-get update the gpg key part ran out of
memory or some random variables. I've now got a broken package. But
really don't know how to fix it. I can't purge it or reinstall without
the error mesage below. Any ideas?

Ok, my bad. There are so many packages where I do translations that I
am not following all of them, just checking once in a while the
translation status.

Hi Anibal

I saw you had long time ago the ITP for libsys-virt-perl package [1].
I would like to ask if you are still interested in it? If not, I would
take the ownership of the ITP and package it (and maintain it under
the umbrella of the pkg-perl group). Do you have any objections on
this?

Bug#534929: bash 4 outputs spurious ^C when sending SIGINT

2009-06-28 Thread Marc Lehmann
Package: bash
Version: 4.0-2
Severity: normal

I often search through the history to find an old command to paste,
followed by pressing ^C (causing SIGINT to be sent). This worked fine in
bash versions up to 3, but in version four, this outputs a spurious ^C
_directly into the readline text_. e.g. bash 3:

   cerebro ~# man bash
   cerebro ~#

bash 4:

   cerebro ~# man b^Ch
   cerebro ~#

This makes it rather hard to go back to look at old commands. I didn't
find anything about this in the documentation, nor obviously a way to get
sane behaviour (defined by me as "like other shells").

It really is bash that outputs it, as strace'ing it reveals:

   --- SIGINT (Interrupt) @ 0 (0) ---
   rt_sigreturn(0x2) = -1 EINTR (Interrupted system call)
   rt_sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, [INT], [], 8) = 0
   rt_sigprocmask(SIG_SETMASK, [], NULL, 8) = 0
   write(2, "^C"..., 2)= 2

You didn't answer my question: can this package be useful to a Debian user?

Not from how you introduced it: it takes information from an ubuntu
forum (that's not the most fortunate decision) so it doesn't seem so
general purpose as you're asserting right above.

> Debian maintains an experimental kernel build repository that may

and so again: what's the point of this package in Debian? I don't care
if Mepis is interested in it, it *must* be useful for Debian in the
first place.

I think it's not that useful here, but I look forward for other comments.

Bug#534632: [Pkg-lyx-devel] Bug#534632: Feature: scale big graphics in the editor

2009-06-28 Thread Alex Dănilă

Hi,
[2] is in the line with what I imagined first. What I didn't notice
when reporting this is "Scale on screen %" setting in the image dialog.
I will use this for now.

Thinking more about this, maybe the best would be something like an
option to limit image depending on the LyX window. I guess the problem
has no chance to being solve in general way.

If you believe it makes sense to report a bug about preview size
dependent on the LyX window, you or I could do the report. Otherwise,
I'm fine enough with "Scale on screen" properties per image.

Thank you for your work.

:) Alex

Hi Alex,

When inserting big graphics into LyX the editor will show them at
original size. The graphics may be set to show at some scaling down
percent, but LyX will show them at the same size.

The problem with this is that it it makes document editing harder by
taking up a lot of screen space and having to scroll too much and
loose overview.

I would like LyX to scale the shown graphics in a smart way (I don't
know which is that) or maybe show them at the scale chosen by the
user in the graphics dialog. Any other method of easing work with
these big graphics is welcome.

Sven

Bug#534932: Continuous alternatation between two screens

2009-06-28 Thread Mark Hobley
Package: postfix
Version: 2.6.2~rc1-1
Severity: grave

On activation of the OK button, a menu appears:

No matter which option is selected, the previous screen reappears, and on
activating the OK, button, the menu appears again. This is recursive.
(Sometimes, there is a rapid continuous alternation between the two screens
without the need to activate the OK button).

Pressing Ctrl-C can sometimes return to a shell, however the package is
not installed if this is done, so the package is unusable.

Hi,

at micro_evtd.c:1018 sprintf() is used to append to a buffer, but the

Bug#484277: Possible fix

2009-06-28 Thread Neil Williams
Autotools and dpkg-cross could provide a simple fix:

lt_cv_sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec="/usr/$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)/lib /lib /usr/lib
/usr/local/lib"

The default path (on amd64) is:
libtool:sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec="/lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib
/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu
"

So it looks like libtool is reading BUILD when it should be reading
HOST.

Now we can either fix this in dpkg-cross by setting
lt_cv_sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec in the /etc/dpkg-cross/config* files
and hopefully we can fix this in libtool too.

dpkg-cross gives us a direct fix for current builds (i.e. without
regenerating the autotools data of a particular package) and a fix in
libtool gives us a long term fix.

It looks like the libtool macros are listening to the wrong environment
variables - BUILD (which doesn't change when cross-compiling) compared
to HOST (which does change and this change should affect libtool
generation from ./configure).

This change to a CDBS package removes the RPATH from the cross-built
binary packages:

DEB_CONFIGURE_EXTRA_FLAGS=lt_cv_sys_lib_dlsearch_path_spec="/usr/$(DEB_HOST_GNU_TYPE)/lib
 /lib /usr/lib /usr/local/lib"

By using HOST, it does not change the value from what would be
automatically generated in a native build.

Whether the *order* of the variables matters, I don't know. More
testing required but I'm thinking of putting this into dpkg-cross to
support such tests.

In that case, I think the best solution would be to generate a stamp in CDBS.
Then no matter what configure does, it will always work. How does that sound?

These packages have this fixed for Lenny.

Bug#534935: lablgtk2: FTBFS with libpanel-applet2-dev >= 2.26

2009-06-28 Thread Samuel Thibault
Package: lablgtk2
Version: 2.12.0-2
Severity: serious
Justification: FTBFS

With libpanel-applet2-dev >= 2.26, panel-applet.h doesn't include
libgnomeui/gnome-ui-init.h any more, so that ml_panel'c use of
LIBGNOMEUI_MODULE defined there doesn't work any more.

Bug#534936: pbuilder-buildpackage reinstalls fakeroot and breaks the build environment that way

2009-06-28 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: pbuilder
Version: 0.188
Severity: normal

Hi Junichi,

fakeroot in testing is currently broken (in respect to libc6-dev-i386
because of the /emul/ia32-linux/ transition in unstable), so I manually
downgraded it to the working version from stable in my squeeze builder
after the last update. Unfortunately pbuilder-buildpackage installs
fakeroot after satisfying the build dependencies causing an update of
the already installed version and breaking everything else (if
libc6-dev-i386 installed). If the reinstallation could be skipped if the
package is already present everything should work out fine.
fakeroot gets added to the EXTRAPACKAGES list at the beginning of
/usr/lib/pbuilder/pbuilder-buildpackage.

For now I will block the bad version in /etc/apt/preferences:

Package: fakeroot
Pin: release stable
Pin-Priority: 501

Unfortunately the following intuitive solution does not work (#454080):

Package: fakeroot
Pin: version 1.12.4
Pin-Priority: -1

reassign 334176 moin
#the underlays were introduced in moinmoin 1.3
found 334176 1.3.4-1
severity wishlist
thanks

Hello,

The behavior is "by design", since moinmoin needs to be able to save
preprocessed file (in the the /usr/share/moin/underlay/$page/cache
sub-folder).

BTW, if you run many wiki instances under the same user account, you can
share the underlay by configuring "data_underlay_dir=" in your
configuration file.

Regards,

Franklin

P.S.
The good news is that it should be possible to achieve read-only
underlay in moinmoin 2.0 (the storage subsystem is being redesigned),
  see http://moinmo.in/MoinMoinTodo/Release_2.0

Bug#534940: lintian: inconsistent reporting of affected files

2009-06-28 Thread Andreas Beckmann
Package: lintian
Version: 2.2.12
Severity: normal

Hi,

the way affected files are reported by linitian is inconsistent, some
tags report them with a leading './', others don't. E.g.

shared-lib-without-dependency-information ./usr/lib/libfoo.so.1.2.3
shlib-with-non-pic-code usr/lib/libfoo.so.1.2.3

Probably only one form should be used and the ./ prefix is not needed
IMO.

As explained in the bug log of #447084, I checked that the fonts I use
are able to correctly display cyrillic letters.
See especially http://bugs.debian.org/447084#15

Moreover, I reproduced the bug with root-tail, which has nothing to do
with fluxbox themes, as far as I know.

Would't it be eought to apply the following patch to debian/rules?

the redeye plugin is not installed via libgimp-perl, and also the gimp
package itself ships /usr/lib/gimp/2.0/plug-ins-red-eye-removal.

Bug#534944: grub-pc: text mode virtual terminals blank after graphical login screen appears

2009-06-28 Thread Arthur Marsh
Package: grub-pc
Version: 1.96+20090628-1
Severity: normal

After installing this version of grub-pc, startup appears normal, but once I
get to the graphical login screen, using control-alt-F1 .. control-alt-F6
results in blank login screens (I've been able to log into them blind).
Hitting control-alt-F7 returns me successfully to the graphical session.

I've also had dosemu in the graphical session fail to remap drives (lredir)
when using this version of grub.

Reverting to a two-week old SVN build of GRUB2 fixes these problems.

Bug#534945: xserver-xorg-input-kbd: XkbOptions have no effect in some applications

2009-06-28 Thread Jan Huelsbergen
Package: xserver-xorg-input-kbd
Version: 1:1.3.1-1
Severity: important

After my first reboot in about 2 months, I started experiencing problems
using level3 shift in some applications. I'm using an iBook G4 with
German keymap. To change the Symbol keys to level3 shift / AltGr, I set
my XkbOptions to "lv3:win_switch". It continues to work in some
applications (like xterm, the libvte part of roxterm, xev, kwrite) but
not in others (rox-filer, the GTK+ preference widgets of roxterm,
iceweasel, emacs22 (both the GTK+ and the xaw3dg version)). In the
applications where it's not working, the Symbol keys seem to be
interpreted as Super. I'm not sure if this is really related to kbd or a
bug in whatever method/library the nonworking applications use for input
but at this point I'm out of ideas so I'm reporting this here in the
hopes that it finds its way to the right place eventually.

I can reproduce this bug only with a few programs (like as xterm). I

This looks a lot like #531088, which is fixed in git and will be
uploaded soon. FYI, a (hopefully) working .dsc close is available there:

http://debian.glondu.net/debian/pool/experimental/main/lablgtk2/lablgtk2_2.12.0-3.dsc

BTW, there are many issues we have spotted before starting the
transition to OCaml 3.11.1; bugs have not been submitted for all of
them. Please have a look at:

Bug#534946: webkit: CVE-2009-1698 CVE-2009-1690 CVE-2009-1687

2009-06-28 Thread Giuseppe Iuculano
Package: webkit
Version: 1.0.1-4
Severity: grave
Tags: security lenny

Hi,
the following CVE (Common Vulnerabilities & Exposures) ids were
published for webkit.

CVE-2009-1698[0]:
| WebKit in Apple Safari before 4.0, iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.2.1, and
| iPhone OS for iPod touch 1.1 through 2.2.1 does not initialize a
| pointer during handling of a Cascading Style Sheets (CSS) attr
| function call with a large numerical argument, which allows remote
| attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of service
| (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted HTML document.

CVE-2009-1690[1]:
| Use-after-free vulnerability in WebKit, as used in Apple Safari before
| 4.0, iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.2.1, iPhone OS for iPod touch 1.1 through
| 2.2.1, Google Chrome 1.0.154.53, and possibly other products, allows
| remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of
| service (memory corruption and application crash) by setting an
| unspecified property of an HTML tag that causes child elements to be
| freed and later accessed when an HTML error occurs, related to
| "recursion in certain DOM event handlers."

CVE-2009-1687[2]:
| The JavaScript garbage collector in WebKit in Apple Safari before 4.0,
| iPhone OS 1.0 through 2.2.1, and iPhone OS for iPod touch 1.1 through
| 2.2.1 does not properly handle allocation failures, which allows
| remote attackers to execute arbitrary code or cause a denial of
| service (memory corruption and application crash) via a crafted HTML
| document that triggers write access to an "offset of a NULL pointer."

These are already fixed in debian unstable.
Please coordinate with the security team (t...@security.debian.org) to
prepare packages for the stable releases.

If you fix the vulnerabilities please also make sure to include the
CVE ids in your changelog entry.

This doesn't happen here, as in my /var/lib/dpkg/available is not
replaced with /var/cache/apt/available. You probably have some extra
software installed that keeps the two available files in sync. I
suggest checking your /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/* for something that syncs
the two and disabling that for a quick fix.

Thanks for the report. The conflicts is indeed verry odd. But if dpkg
is happy with it then I should be too.

Fixed in svn:

The problem should also go away if you comment out the squeeze entries
in sources.list or change the squeeze entries to deb [arch=amd64] ...
and run /usr/share/ia32-apt-get/convert-all-sources.list again. No
libmagick9 in sid packages.debian.org tells me.
