According to #3674 [1] in the LyX bugtracker you should see an instant preview so that you can adjust the scaling while having the insert dialog still open. Currently this doesn't work on Linux. After all this is still not exactly what you've asked for. A bit more in this direction is #2151 [2] which asks for an automatic scaling factor setting. One more in the same direction is #2200 [3]. Still not exactly what you asked for but I guess this is very close if you get some automatic scaling that adjusts to your current screen size. I'm unsure which one fits best here or if I should forward this in a new report. Any recommendations?
