If you can't point to a specific reason this should be serious, then yes,
it's too high.

I think it's been the better part of a decade since the last time I needed
to use rdev; hardly seems worth a porter NMU IMHO.

2006-04-18 Thread Ted Percival
Package: sunbird
Version: 0.2.99+0.3alpha1-3

sunbird suggests mozilla-thunderbird and mozilla-firefox. Both packages
have been replaced by packages without the mozilla- prefix: thunderbird
and firefox.

sunbird-typeaheadfind and sunbird-inspector are among the suggested
packages but don't seem to exist in the Debian repositories.

With version 2.4.2.1-2, I lack the input field when evolution-plugins is
not installed. When I install it, and restart evolution, it shows up.
Make sure the plugins are enabled (Edit->Plugins).

What are the version numbers of your evolution and evolution-plugins

Not right now, as it requires xserver-xorg-core 1.1. It might be a good
idea to package the CVS ati-1-0-branch for sid or at least experimental
though.

Bug#363253: Please enable support for RAID partitions on sparc

2006-04-18 Thread Jurij Smakov

Package: parted
Severity: wishlist
Tags: patch

Hi,

Attached patch for libparted, courtesy of Fabio Massimo Di Nitto,
enables the support for RAID volumes on sparc. I'd appreciate if it would
find its way into the libparted, as it would make it possible to install
to RAID volumes on sparc.

Indeed, AFAIK, most m68k machines out there can do that out of the box.

I'm not sure that's really all that important? I've never used any such
card, but OpenAL has been working nicely for me on powerpc, amd64 and
i386. I suspect the real questions are

  * Do m68k machines typically have enough horse power for OpenAL to
reasonably mix the stereo stream?
  * Do m68k machines typically meet the other requirements of games
that use OpenAL? In particular, most if not all of them seem to
require 3D acceleration.

That would be just on the right side of the border set by DFSG #4 (note
that it's a TeX input file, so it is both source and used form), but

Can we in fact assume such implicit granting of rights? It seems logic
to me, because there are no "needs of your installation" if all I may do
is meditate over the contents of the file. But I'm not sure whether
what seems logic to me is logic in IP law...

Bug#361564: tetex-extra: sample file plbib.bib is ill-formed

2006-04-18 Thread Frank Küster
Dear Staszek,

are you the maintainer of the plbib.bib file on CTAN, or do you know the
maintainer? There's a small problem with it which could easily be
fixed: The file contains the lines, maybe a comment by Thomas Esser:

% According to Staszek Wawrykiewicz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, these files
% been put into the public domain.

But for bibtex, % is not a comment sign, it simply ignores everything
that doesn't look like a bibtex entry - but @gust from the e-mail
address is interpreted as the start of an entry type gust.

Therefore bibtex generates an error message whenever that bib file is
loaded. The best way to fix is probably

-% According to Staszek Wawrykiewicz <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>, these files
+% According to Staszek Wawrykiewicz , these files

I'd be glad to hear from you. If you're busy, I can offer to do this
trivial upload to CTAN on your behalf.

Kind regards, Frank

Well, even low-horsepowered boxes like a standard A1200 can mix 4 8bit
Channel into 2 14bit channels without many problems. (The 14bit thing is
limited by hardware, not the processing power).

I don't thing there's an uptodate 3D graphic card for Amigas at least with
enough power to be usuable. There are of course some Virge3D based cards out
there, but I don't know how well supported these are, because I don't own
such as card.

I believe 3D on m68k is rather useless nowadays, but if someone knows better
than me, please shout now! :-)

My 2 cents...

I think it just needs to go into xserver-xorg-core, and the drivers need
to use it.

BTW, I think that when reporting a bug against xserver-xorg-core, the
user should also be warned that a lot of (most?) bugs now need to be
reported against the video driver package.

2006-04-18 Thread Sune Vuorela
Package: crystalcursors
Version: 1.1.1-5
Severity: grave
Justification: renders package unusable

This package will not work with the current xorg in testing or the xfree
in sarge.
It should have either a depend or a conflict.

This might be a normal bug under normal circumstances, but
crystalcursors will probably be rc-bug-free and ready to move to testing
a long time before the modular X is ready for testing, so this will be
broken in testing. Making it RC to prevent migration.

Bug#363263: emacs-goodies-el: Session.el conflicts w/ Org Mode of emacs-snapshot

2006-04-18 Thread Bake Timmons III
Package: emacs-goodies-el
Version: 26.5-2
Severity: normal

Given the following minimal .emacs file

(custom-set-variables
 '(session-initialize t nil (session)))

if we run emacs-snapshot and then run org-mode say, on any buffer such
as *scratch*, then trying to quit emacs, i.e., kill-emacs, will not
work. I had to do a kill %emacs to exit. This happens with or
without a .session file and for at least a couple of emacs snapshot
versions, perhaps many more.

In particular, session-save-session hangs.

I tried debugging by loading the source session.el file in order to
make the backtrace readable and then running the debugger. Below I
have copied from an emacs screen: (1) an upper window of the *scratch*
buffer used for several evaluations (in reverse chronological order)
of list "val"; (2) a lower window of the *Backtrace* buffer.

The endless loop in *Backtrace* is
(while val (or (and ... ...) (if ass-p ... ...) (progn ... ...) ...

The most recent evaluation of variable val is at the top of *scratch*;
in a previous debugging session evaluating (length val) at this point
hangs. The following lines are copied from the split windows:

Thanks,

As a workaround, you can comment out

loopback interface is automatically included

I'll wait a day or two in case anything else come out of the woodwork,
then release a fixed version. I suspect that a fairly small proportion
of configurations out there will tickle this bug. (It requires
"bind-interfaces" set as well, to cause the problem.)

I can't reproduce this. It is supposed to be the responsibility of the

I include the log part that mention grub-installer but as you can see
there is only the successful installation of grub, the only problem I
see with grub is a timeout during download. Is grub downloaded just
before using it? Could it be that d-i does not found grub and report
generic problem I confused with a problem in running grub-install?

If you need the whole logs just ask them I will create a tarbal and send
it.

Bug#362766: xcursor-themes: cursor themes do not work using current libxcursor1

2006-04-18 Thread Steve Langasek
Hello,

Is it reasonable/appropriate for libxcursor1 to continue to support
/usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons as a fallback search path, in order to provide as
smooth an upgrade as possible?

Thanks,

What created/owns /usr/share/icons/default on your system? It does not
exist here; if you expect this directory to exist, you must ship it in your
package.

Er, do you mean you've done this by hand? I mean, it's clear that within
the crystalcursors package files have been moved to /usr/X11R6/lib/X11/icons
to /usr/share/icons, but I don't see what created the
/usr/share/icons/default directory for you.

Definitely not. The command you're calling in your postinst is (with
variables expanded):

 update-alternatives --install /usr/share/icons/default/index.theme \
x-cursor-theme /usr/share/icons/crystalblue/index.theme 50

If you expect this to make */usr/share/icons/default* a symlink, your
invocation of u-a is broken.

If you expect this to create a symlink *within* /usr/share/icons/default,
your package is broken for expecting that directory to be there when you
haven't created it.

I don't know which behavior is correct, since policy says nothing about X
icon handling, but in neither case should dpkg (update-alternatives) be
expected to create this directory for you.

The error still occurs.

I have tihs error on two machines, both running fully modular xorg from
debian.

I know about the new locations - I am maintaining a similar package not yet
transitioned to xorg7 (comixcursors)

> Since update-alternatives for x-cursor-theme is currently broken (You
> can chose one but it does not actually *become* the default icon until

You need to either depend on a package providing /usr/share/icons/default or
provide it yourself.

In the xorg6.9 days, gtk2-themes-industrial, which also supplies a cursor
theme, provided the default dir, because it uses the alternatives for that
dir.
In the xorg6.9 days, crystalcursors started to depend on xlibs-data because of
the need for the default dir in that location.

> I strongly believe your reported bug belongs to dpkg (which includes

update-alternatives only manages symlinks. It does not manage directories.

> Since crystalcursors was usable on my boxes after the error your report

Leaving apt without being able to finish is not 'normal' - sorry - even if the
package "works" afterwards.

Well, the window is not opening Maximized anymore, but it *is*
opening "as big as it can get", and not remembering the last window
shape and size.

I do not think that this is necessarily a metacity issue, because
Firefox 1.5.dfsg+1.5.0.1-4 and Pan 0.14.2.91-5 both remember their
window sizes.

Also, the issue only occurred after I installed Evo 2.6.0-2. At
the same time, I upgraded many other packages, and can attach a
list of upgraded packages (along with previous versions).

and I understand that you canceled the NMU, but please dont trash the
whole diff away, it addresses a lot of problems that are old or RC on
the BTS (don't be suprised to be NMU-ed with a 30 days old RC bug on
your package), and the other are RC packaging problems:
 - having debian/*.ex files is RC (ftp master refuses packages that have
   those).
 - my debian/copyright is maybe wrong (but I really need a clarification
   on this, so that I don't do the same mistake twice, please tell me)
   but yours is clearly incomplete (this is also RC)

Having both .install and .files files is confusing enough to deserve an
important bug. Same is for the non used anymore debian/libosip2.*

osip.1 beeing distrubuted upstream and not in the package is also
clumsy.

the rest (DH_COMPAT to 5, Standars-Version to 3.6.2) is just coemecitc.

So I really hope you will include in your next (coming ?) upload most of
the changes I did. Else I will open bugs to ask them to be fixed.

It works for me.
My default XKB settings with xkb-data:
  $ setxkbmap -print
  xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "xfree86+aliases(azerty)"   };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete"  };
xkb_symbols   { include "pc(pc105)+fr+compose(caps)"};
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
  };
Use XKB data from obsolete xlibs package:
  $ export XKBPATH=/etc/X11/xkb
  $ setxkbmap -print
  xkb_keymap {
xkb_keycodes  { include "xfree86+aliases(azerty)"   };
xkb_types { include "complete"  };
xkb_compat{ include "complete"  };
xkb_symbols   { include "pc/pc(pc105)+pc/fr+compose(caps)" };
xkb_geometry  { include "pc(pc105)" };
  };
The pc/ subdirectory shows that files are read from /etc/X11/xkb.
Activate these settings
  $ setxkbmap -print | xkbcomp - :0
Check that X did load files from /etc/X11/xkb
  $ xkbcomp :0 - | grep xkb_symbols
  xkb_symbols "pc/pc(pc105)+pc/fr+compose(caps)" {

This variable must be set before X is started, or if it is set later,
you must call setxkbmap after setting this variable.

Indeed, it worked with 6.9 and does not seem to work anymore, I need
to check why.

Ok, I see. So it seem to make sense to have openal on m86k because
openal nor its reverse depends are necessarily unusable on m86k.

So it seem to make rather sense to remove all libgl and libglu
implementations + all reverse dependencies + add them to p-a-s, because
software rendering isn't really an option on m68k, and hardware
accelerated hardware isn't really available either.

Please note that I don't want to hurt the m86k port. I just think that
this could help to keep up with other archs and reduce load from the
porters. If the libgl implementation were added to p-a-s, then the
sources would still be around, so user could try to compile them
themselves without too much pain (well, this depends rather on his
hardware than on the debian archive/packaging).

Perhaps with the new coldfires there will be a use again for opengl
accelerated games, but I honestly doubt that.

Gruesse,
Reinhard

Bug#363267: xutils-dev: Should drop -lXp dependency of Xaw

2006-04-18 Thread Daniel Schepler
Package: xutils-dev
Version: 1:1.0.2-2
Severity: important
Justification: causes FTBFS in numerous packages until libxp moves to /usr/lib

As the subject says: since libxaw8 is being dropped, the imake templates
should no longer make Xaw-using apps link against -lXp. This is currently
causing FTBFS in several packages; for example, from my build log for nas:

...
rm -f audemo
gcc -m32 -o audemo audemo.o -g -O2 -fno-strict-aliasing
../../../lib/audio/libaudio.a -lXt -lSM -lICE -lXext -lX11 -lm
../../../clients/audio/widgets/libwidgets.a -lXaw -lXmu -lXt -lSM -lICE -lXpm
-lXp -lXext -lX11
/usr/bin/ld: cannot find -lXp
collect2: ld returned 1 exit status

(I see libxp is in incoming along with a couple associated packages. But
dropping the unnecessary -lXp is still a good idea.)

There seems to be something wrong in the detection of the root user.

2006-04-18 Thread Sune Vuorela
For me it is quite unclear wether the fix will be making
the /usr/share/icons/default dir the thing that is handled thru the
alternatives - or as it is with the X11R6-generation; handled thru the index
file in the default dir.

I sure hope for the last.

It's assembler, so I cannot (yet) do it. Thiemo, it only requires ~5
lines of assembler. Can you take a look?

Hi Pierre! Thanks for testing this. Shishid is the most unstable
part of shishi, and I haven't tested the Debian packaging of it much.

I have found the --background parameter to start-stop-daemon, and
believe it will solve this problem. Could you modify the
/etc/init.d/shishid file and replace --start with --start
--background?

Thanks!

Bug#363273: bacula should be able to schedule commands in advance

2006-04-18 Thread Yann Forget
Package: bacula
Severity: wishlist

Hi,

It is not possible to issue some commands (label or relabel a tape, etc.) while
the system is doing a backup.
So when the backups take time, no command can be sent to the system.
It seems therefore quite necessary to be able to send commands to be executed
later, after the current backup finishes.

Thanks,

Yann

Bug#359328: i810/i915 still missing something

2006-04-18 Thread Drew Parsons
I've upgraded i915_dri.so to
http://dri.freedesktop.org/snapshots/i915-20060403-linux.i386.tar.bz2,
upgraded libshadow.so and libi180_drv.so to Alan Hourihane's latest at
http://www.fairlite.demon.co.uk/intel.html (being i810 1.6.13).  I'm
running Linux 2.6.16.

Apparently there are yet more hoops to jump through. GLX is still not
working . Before upgrading i915_dri.so I was getting "ERROR!
sizeof(I830DRIRec) does not match passed size from device driver", with
direct rendering: No.

Now with the upgraded i915_dri.so I do have direct rendering: Yes, but
with the error:

So the next problem is these 0xNN visuals not supported, and some

Bug#363277: gnuserv: FTBFS: conflicting types for 'strerror'

2006-04-18 Thread Andreas Jochens
Package: gnuserv
Version: 3.12.7-2
Severity: serious
Tags: patch

When building 'gnuserv' on amd64/unstable,
I get the following error:

gcc -c -I. -I. -DHAVE_CONFIG_H -I -g -O2 gnuclient.c
In file included from gnuclient.c:61:

With the attached patch 'gnuserv' can be compiled on unstable.

The patch removes the problematic declaration of strerror from sysfile.h.
The strerror function does not seem to be used anywhere in the gnuserv code.

Just upgraded, still unsolved, now resulting in the following error:

  error opening security policy file /etc/X11/xserver/SecurityPolicy

This because the SecurityPolicy file isn't installed on my machine:
=
[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg | grep Version
Version: 1:7.0.14

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ dpkg -s xserver-xorg-core | grep Version

[EMAIL PROTECTED]:~$ apt-file search SecurityPolicy | grep etc

xserver-common is replaced by x11-common, which doesn't include the
SecurityPolicy file.

Thx, bye,

Nonetheless, there stays a wishlist bug:
"If the HTML-version is >= 4.0 create "“”" from "``''" in the

Yes, we had a bug report about the same problem, but not with much
details. I already got rid of mpn_sub_nc in the trunk (fixing a
potential bug at the same time); the patch will be applied later
to the branch.

Concerning the __gmp_rand, a patch will probably modify the PRNG.
I wonder if this is acceptable (however we don't say anything about
the behavior of the PRNG).

BTW, I think the use of GMP internals mainly comes from the time
MPFR was more or less part of GMP.

Bug#363280: konsole: Missing slave alternative /usr/share/man/man1/x-terminal-emulator.1.gz

2006-04-18 Thread Magnus Holmgren
Package: konsole
Version: 4:3.5.2-1

I think you should add

 --slave /usr/share/man/man1/x-terminal-emulator.1.gz \
x-terminal-emulator.1.gz /usr/share/man/man1/konsole.1.gz

to the update-alternatives command in konsole.postinst, because other
X-terminal packages do and it results in mandb reporting a dangling symlink
once a day if you choose konsole as the x-terminal-emulator alternative.

Even if this is a minor bug, since there exists a man page for konsole there
is no good enough reason not to add an alternatives link to it, IMHO.

assembler hacks but will be 100% occupied with soundmixing. I doubt
OpenAL is using such efficient methods for mixing.

 Another problem is the volumne: The typical onboard-sound-solutions do
not have the same behaviour than todays audio hardware, that is, if you
mix on a modern system four times the exactly same audiosignal then you
get a four times louder signal - I guess thats because they have spare
bits in the final DA-logics. Do this on old legacy hardware and you end
up with chopped spikes or have to reduce the volumne by downmixing the
waveforms (math takes lots of cycles), therefore producing very low
volumne. I remember I had to turn my volumne up nearly ten times to hear
anything after mixing 16 channels on my amiga 3000 and then I nearly got
an heartattack after the first "nonmixed" sound. All in all a not very
desirable solution. This may differ for add-on-soundsystems though.

 I would prefer a patch to the m68k-OSS-legacy-drivers inside the
kernel to "accept" 16Bit-audio and "downmixing" it to the 8Bit because
8Bit-audio tends to cause trouble with recent software.

 There are some Permedia2-solutions made for Amigas and you can use
nearly every PCI-card by using a PCI-daughterboard. ATI even had some
Amiga-specific drivers on their homepage and I am really talking about
recent hardware like Radeons.

 Btw, with the PCI-Daughterboard you should be also able to use
PCI-Soundcards but I have never heared of any drivers for AmigaOS or
even bleeding edge tests under Linux. It is out there, should be mostly
compatible on port- and register-level but nobody has done anything yet.

 Don't expect surprising results from m68k-3D. But games like Shogo and
Quake1 made good use of the Permedia and ATI-solutions and have been
pretty playable.

 Btw, I only knew one person with a Permedia2-solution, he has sold
most of his stuff though and never would have even considered using
Unix. And I have only read about other addons like the
PCI-daughterboard, Zorro-Soundcards, PCI-ATI-cards and so on.

 That stuff should be pretty ultrarare. Maybe you'll find five people
on the planet who would like to use it with m68k-Debian. All others are
happy with their legacy-sound and maybe a rough 2D-SVGA-addon based on
some ancient Cirrus-Logic or S3 chipset. Or in other words: There are
more important things to fix on m68k.

`.orig' is a suffix used by (amongst other things) patch, when it is
handling rejected patches. Many tools are set up to automatically
exclude or delete .orig files, including for example most revision
control systems.

You may remember me sending you a diff which tidies up the crud left
over by the Mozilla build system so that debian/rules clean actually
works; I suspect that the thing that deleted .orig in my environment
was that change to debian/rules, but it's by no means the only such
thing.

Using .orig for moving about.png aside is asking for trouble, I think.

Regards,
Ian.

Hi,

could you please add Tie::IxHash in your package description so that
user could find this package when he apt-cache search Tie::IxHash

Thanks,

Bug#354995: amd64-k8-smp kernel makes clock run fast

2006-04-18 Thread Andrew Schulman
I have this problem, and it is not caaauused by the ATI timer bug. I don't
have an ATI chipset, and none of the suggesssted fixes for the ATI timer
bug (booting with disable_timer_pin_1, noapic, acpi=off, notsc, etc.) has
any effect.

My system clock runs about 5% fast, with a lot of aariability. And as
you can see, typing is difficult because keypresses get repeated
sporadically, from 2-5 times each.

I'm running a customm   664-bit kernel 2.6.15 with amd64 userland.  I
haven't been able to upgrade to 2.6.16 yet due to some iptables issues,
but will try that next. Meanwhile, I want to ask that this bug not be
closed. Although the ATI timer bug has been worked around, there are
sti some of us with the same symptoms that aren't causeddd by the ATI
timer bug.

Thanks,

Andrew.
