To keep this post from confusing some interested riders, I felt compelled to respond. Yes, challenging one's self by riding a longer distance than ever before can be one reason to get involved in randonneuring, but it is far from the only reason. If one can't appreciate beautiful scenery, friendly riding mates, and extremely thoughtful volunteers, this ride is certainly not appropriate. I believe there is a SFR 300k on August 28th that promises to satisfy those who consider 75 miles insignificant for a bike ride.
For the record, there was no mistake made with the offer of this 115K Populaire. There will be many riders who come out with a wide range of riding abilities and have a great time. I think there may even be some riders who've done 1200Ks who will still have a great time.
