I like both. I love friction on 7/8 speed drivetrains that I use with a triple for touring. I like indexed for my 2x9 speed drivetrains. I ride my bikes off pavement a lot and don’t like having to trim and search for the sweet spot too much which I found was necessary (for me) when friction shifting 9 speed on dirt or gravel.
