I switched from desktop to laptops a few years ago, and would never look back. The laptops can do everything the desk top can do, you can use them as a desktop (I do), but they use less electricity, take up less space, are vastly quieter, and are portable when you need them to be. FWIW, I've been using Dell all my programming life, and am happy with them. I'm using Windows 7 64 bit, and have to admit it's a good operating system. If I knew now what I knew then, I would have ordered the 32 bit version, as I had a few annoyances (nothing major) switching VFP over. I agree with Alan about using an external keyboard and mouse, but don't feel it defeats the purpose. If I work easier that way, why not? I have a small spare keyboard and mouse that live in the laptop carrying case, so all I have to do to go mobile is toss the laptop in, and spend a few extra seconds setting up on arrival.
