What I like about Windows and seems to be lacking (or I can't find the options)
on Linux desktops are the keyboard shortcuts:

<windows button> + M to minimize all windows
<windows button> + E to open explorer
F3 to search

And the ability to use keyboard shortcuts to negotiate the start menu and
Program files menu
eg
<windows button> + R to open the run command boxe

I once had to configure a PC for a man who was loosing his sight, and modified
his Start menu - eg renamed the program files option for MS Word to just Word,
and moved it to the Start Menu, so he could just do

<windows button> + W to open Word
<windows button> + X to open Excel
etc

This was very helpful to him as he had difficulty in seeing the mouse cursor

Desktop shortcuts are also harder to set up using KDE or Gnome compared to
Windows

I have not found any easy to follow instructions for configring KDE or Gnome
Desktops - eg how can you automate the installation of desktop shortcuts or
menu options when installing software?

Please note - I use Linux on my home desktop's, but support Windows/Novell at
work, so I tend to be more familiar with Windows

Yours

Andrew
