That's old fangled, Christine....

Up until a couple of years ago, we always had a couple of Dexters as "pets" at the farm where our Belgian came from, at least until they got big enough to eat. Small hobby farm herd of perhaps a dozen cattle, no antibiotics, range fed, guarded by a couple of the nicest Pyrenees dogs you could hope to meet (unless you were a coyote, anyway). Really nice, friendly little animals, and they gave up about 250 pounds of meat each. We've since had to source out beef from a local butcher who is sourcing locally from a local small meat cutter who also sources from small herd ranchers. And yes, the difference between that and what comes out of Safeway, or God forbid, Wal-Mart is like night and day.
One wouldn't think they were the same type of animal.
