Sure, but why to make it worse. Anyway you are not replying to my point, which 
is:

Features should be enabled by their usage not because someone might not become
aware of it. 
If most people switch it on _then_ enabling it by default makes sense.

The firefox example above has nice demonstration of such option - I must have
been switching off this "always show tabbar" feature so many times and yet the
only functional relevance of single tab is to tell "hey, we know tabs, aren't
we cool?" otherwise its just stealing vertical place in the browser. Now to
deliver this hint is just one time thing even for those people who never heard
of tabs. All other folks have to pay for this single moment and to me this
price is unacceptably high.
