+1 - would be very useful.

+1 - this would make much sense.

Actually, this goes towards having different profiles for settings - drafting, 
finalizing,
reviewing, ... for which several settings might be different (e.g. show 
pictures, preview maths
mode, track changes, ...). I would be a bloat of the lyx file format if all 
settings would be
included, but to add a "settings profile" per document basis, would make much 
sense. Additional
advantage: this profile somehow could also be used for adding optional aspects 
in the preamble,
e.g. watermark in draft mode (like branche in the preamble.

Yes - and possibly open, after each update, the important changes automatically 
(like the default
lyx document opened on new installs)
