I sincerely doubt this. The old-school users are unhappy with LyX
shipping with continuous spellchecking enabled by default. This covers
new installs, too, so tinkering with config files as you suggest isn't
really a solution.

If I understand correctly, from their perspective continuous
spellchecking is a useless feature that shouldn't exist in the first
place; but since it has gotten implemented in LyX, the least is to
have it disabled by default. So as it stands we have a compromise. :)
