I don't really understand what you mean by an "open internet connection",
but for the record, I'm on ADSL and I had browsers and an SSH session
running while I did the installation. In other words, I belive I had
connection with the internet...
I suspect there is a bug somewhere in the installer or the site from which
MikTeX packages are downloaded. Is there a log file somewhere that I can
show you?
