Then your installation was not complete. Try to reinstall LyX and open an internet connection before
doing this.
Concerning the User's Guide; it doesn't matter what installer you use. MiKTeX comes with a basic
system. But LyX uses much more LaTeX-packages than included in the basic version. The installer
therefore installs all needed LaTeX-packages when LyX is first started. This requires an open
internet connection. A console window is showing you the preogress. When this fails for some reason,
the missing packages will be installed just in time when you try to view your document as PDF or
another format. Of course this also requires an open internet connection. So the safest way is to
install LyX with an open internet connection, then you can stay offline.
