I used the blue foam in my tail surfaces. After hours of sanding I swore off
the blue foam and will now use nothing else but urethane. The urethane is so
much easier to shape. It sands extremely quick. As far as delamination goes,
you will get delamination from blue foam as I have some areas on my tail
feathers which have delaminated. The urethane is more porous than the blue
foam so if you apply the micro slurry appropriately, it will soak into the
urethane and possibly could actually create a better bond than slurry on
blue foam would. Either foam will actually work as well as the pink foam
will too. They all have their benefits and problems. If you are working
around fuel areas then by all means use urethane. The choice is yours.
Another thought about hot wiring blue foam....it takes a lot of practice to
be able to do a good job with the hot wire. I tried that method on my tail
feathers and totally screwed them up so I had to remove all the foam and do
it all over again by sanding. The few dollars you will save by using blue
foam simply is not worth all the headaches. Just my 2 centavos worth.....
