Hello again.

First, I'm happy to see all these responses! How nice to be somewhere
where these things can be discussed.

Second, I just wanted to make clear what the point of my message was. I
am *NOT* advocating a ban or censorship of screenshots or irc chats. I do
not want everyone to rush out and change their web-sites to please my
tastes; Microsoft already provides enough annoying uniformity. I don't
mean to launch a crusade against porn, either. What I'm saying is that I
worry that many people include these pin-up pictures without thinking
about it; without considering that some other people might get turned off
to an otherwise perfectly good product.

The question that I don't have the answer to, is how do we bring about
change, how do we create a community that's a little bit more thoughtful.
One answer is to start new places/sites/chat rooms with a different
attitude. Another is to try to raise a bit more awareness in the existing
places/sites/irc channels. The two options aren't mutually exclusive,
either. Certainly discussions like the one we're engaged in here are an
important part of the process.

Further, I wanted to tell you that I emailed one gentleman who advertised
his background-changing applet with screenshots replete with pin-ups.
After a bit of email discussion, we decided that I would install his
applet and send him pictures of my desktop.

And finally, no, I won't just "deal with it" or suck it up. Things never
change for the better by just accepting them as they are. This should be
abundantly clear to anyone in the Linux community - a place where people
constantly working to improve and better their computer environments.

Ingrid
