Just to add my two cents :
Everybody has the right to commercially distribute a
game based on a GPLed idsoftware engine (as stated in the GPL).
Provided that he

1.) distributes the sourcecode of his engine too, according to the
requirements of the GPL-license

2.) does not distribute any artwork by idsoftware (pk3s) as this
is not covered by the GPL

3.) has the Copyright to all of his own artwork e.g.
trough own creation or transfer of copyright from the original author

4.) the console manufacturer (Sony) allows
"Free Software" on their console (on the game side,
not the Playstation Linux side)
