Hi,

I think the definition of a complete 3d game, is when you can look up and
down, jump, clime up and down. Not just rely on ramps and stairs etc etc.
doom you could only move left and right forwards or backwards. Unless there
was a ramp or stairway. That to me is the definition of 3d. Although how you
wuld get that in a blind friendly game I have no idea. Unless you changed
the tone or other type of graphical level that there is like trebble etc to
indicate pitch. To have to many sounds would cause confusion. If such a
thing has been done I'd love to get a look at it

Hi tom.

I know Sarah or Shades don't have the 3D environmental features the way any
of the quake varients do, ----- Eg, catwalks, ramps etc. however personally,

though the games are single level, I'd count them as 3d because of the use
of sound sources in proximity to your character used for movement, just as
if you were walking around a flat area yourself encountering different
sounds. On the other hand, a game like Sound Rts which lets you examine a
large serfice area and many objects, I'd count as 2D.

for mainstream gaming, I can think of a couple of titles that have a 3D
view, but don't actually involve changes in the elevation of your
character, ---- for example the original wolfenstein 3D, or vehicle games
like Cyber sled.

It's probably just a deffinitional point though, and something we might just

have to differ on.

then again, perhaps applying site based rules of perspective to audio games
isn't such a good idea.

I once tried to explain the mechanics of the Galaxy ranger system, ----Eg,
you "Get into" a unit to control and fight with it, to a friend of mine who
was a big stratogy games fan, and it was actually slightly difficult, sinse
obviously in Gr, there is no way (as in mainstream stratogy games), to
examine the general board.

He was quite intreagued by the idea though.

Beware the Grue!

Dark.
