Hi Phil,
I'm looking into something similar with Star Wars. I initially planned 
on doing a true 3D environment, but learned early on how much time that 
would add as well as make the game a hole lot more complicated in the 
process. So I will likely use a series of boolian flags to simulate a 3D 
environment while maintaining the use of the 2D monty Engine.
