I used the boot tape, I think we may be talking about the same thing - it
does not weather well, and seems to attract dirt.
I think I may have taped over it after a year or so, my go-to tape for
general purpose on the boat is that white Preservation tape.
It's like shrink wrap tape, but you can peel it off without a residue.
Lasts several seasons.
Another Option I have used is to put the boot tape on for a foundation, and
paint it with that flexsealproducts.com liquid.
I suppose for that matter, you might be able to just wrap it with some
fabric, and then coat well with the flexseal?
It Holds up  pretty well.
