I think some people (riggers) make a mountain out of a molehill. As I mentioned here some time ago, one of the Annapolis riggers told me how hard it was to get a kevlar backstay,, and then proceeded to rip me off to the tune of 1800 bucks. Then I went to the boat show, and discovered from the nice fellow from Hayn Marine that the backstay was readily available. I had a new one in a couple weeks. They also have all the old Navtec fittings, balls, etc. Navtec.com. If you have a C&C, you know how to work-around. hard to source parts! If a boat was in the tropics for a long time, I would certainly check the rigging out carefully. I bought a boat that had been in the Caribbean for many years, but always stored half a year out of water, and very well taken care of. When I bought it, I had pulled the mast at Jabins, brought all the rod home on a trailer and checked it all out. .Cleaned, examined, passivated and buffed all the ends, even ran most of the rods that had residual curve in them through straighteners to take most of the cast out of them. I feel very confident in the rig. And I even had to make tooling to re-head the D1 shroud that I inadvertently ground the head off by dragging it on the pavement! I'll send you the catalog.
