Just as a follow up, my rigger is also an accomplished sailor with a lot
of sailing experience....not just a guy that got into the rigging
business....he sailed in the Olympics, and in 1977 and 1980 won the
world soling championships with Glen Dexter and Andreas Jonenhans.
He has an excellent reputation here as a rigger....I would like to
believe he understands the rigging business.

Well, if your local rigging guy is correct, then there should have
been and/or is going to be a lot of rod rigging failures in my area.

My local rigging guy said any original rigging would fail without him
even seeing it, so there is that ☹

Joe,
My 1984 C&C 32 has rod rigging....have it inspected every 5 years
when an insurance survey is required. My last inspection of the rod
rigging was positive although the rigger who did the inspection, not
the boat surveyor, recommended new turnbuckles although he maintained
that was mainly out of caution while not really a necessity because
he noticed any problem(s).
I believe NavTech recommends replacing the turnbuckles every 10 years
or 40,000 miles, which ever comes first.

Question for the collective knowledge base here:
Would you sail a 1980s era boat with original rod rigging or is
it going to fall on your head any second?
