I wanted my post from Wednesday to make the same point about handicap racing
but you appear to write more effectively than I do.I also have some
trophies, mostly plastic keepers and our boat name on a few oldies held at
the club but those winnings came at the expense of having fun more often
than not.

I will say however that handicap racing did a lot to improve my overall
sailing knowledge and skills.I often tell folks that I learned how to sail
through racing, now it is hard to just sit back and relax on the boat if the
sails don't look quite right.at least I have learned to be happy with only
one multi purpose headsail on board

Man.... just skimming all this discussion makes it increasingly clear while
sailboat racing is in decline.

I've certainly got more than my share of racing trophies on the wall (both
handicap and one-design) but this handicap stuff really sucks the soul out
of the sport (IMO, of course)

Cheers,
Colin
