PHRF of the Chesapeake limits our pole to <= J. If your pole is longer than that, you declare it and accept a rating adjustment. We have a couple of local boats that seem to have awfully long poles (without any PHRF adjustment). From what I have seen mast head rigs pretty much always have the same spin. On the Hudson River the base non-spin rating assumes you have a whisker pole that can be extended to 1.5 of J. if you use a pole that is significantly less that your largest declared LP (e.g. a spinnaker pole with a 155%) you can get a up to a 6 sec credit.
