Hi Hendrik, Thanks for your generous and informative reply. I was actually joking when I wrote "I was hoping you would tell me how to do it!" But I'm grateful for your expert advice and I'll check the links you sent.
I plan to remove windows8 completely, replacing it with ubuntu (or debian) which may make things a bit easier. So I guess my first step will be to reformat and partition both the 24gb ssd and the 500gb hdd. I'll see what ubuntu forum has to say. Thanks again for your help Robin (aka Richard) On Thu, Aug 8, 2013 at 9:38 PM, Hendrik Schaink <hscha...@infovisi.com>wrote: > Hi Richard, > > Here is a link to a side-by-side install of Win8 and Ubuntu 12.xx with > consideration for both uefi and secure boot: > http://askubuntu.com/**questions/221835/installing-** > ubuntu-on-a-pre-installed-**windows-8-64-bit-system-uefi-**supported<http://askubuntu.com/questions/221835/installing-ubuntu-on-a-pre-installed-windows-8-64-bit-system-uefi-supported> > > Also, have a look at a Google search with the search terms: > https://www.google.ca/webhp#**bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&fp=** > 614c58fa9836a838&q=dual-boot%**2Bwindows8%2Buefi%2Bubuntu%**2B12.04<https://www.google.ca/webhp#bav=on.2,or.r_qf.&fp=614c58fa9836a838&q=dual-boot%2Bwindows8%2Buefi%2Bubuntu%2B12.04> > > There's a lot of trial-and-error going on when installing linux (ubuntu) > on the same hdd as Win8.
