I have now finally heard of someone who has not one, but a pair of 6509's at their home.. I guess the local electric company loves you every time you turn them on. :-)

I haven't tried Windows 2008r2 server yet.. When I was running it on Windows 7 x64 I have a AMD Phenom II Quad-Core with 16GB RAM.

So far it appears to working quite well on that on a Kubuntu/Ubuntu set-up I have. Splitting up the Hypervisors has really helped.

12 routers on my Dell Precision M6500, i7 and 16GB RAM, smooth on windows
2008r2 enterprice...

nothing to say, just idlemax 128.... just this tweak!, i could do almost
every lab on GNS3, and then i'll pass everything on my 2800, 3800 routers
and 3560 switches! :-)

greetings.

I am running idlemax at 250 right now and once I get some routing

allegedly, adding routing protocols may not matter in the grand scheme
of
things..

You forgot Idlemax = 100
Place it right below your Idlepc setting in your .net file
That should get CPU down further...

Guys appreciate the comments from everyone..
I did get the 64bit GNS3 to run very on my quad-core i7 laptop with
8GB
RAM..

It appears so far to run more smoother than the 32bit on Windows 7..

I was able to tweak it and have the entire IPExperts Dynamips map
running with about 35-40% of the overall CPU(s) being used at the
most. So
far this is initial without any IP Routing or the dreaded multi
cast.. ;-)
I setup separate hypervisors for each group of devices and in turn
each
of them had their own idle-pc.. So far so good..

Cheers

Joe

I'm using the GNS virtual box edition.

Windows also has per-process memory limits which cap you at 6-8
routers per hypervisor, requiring you to use multiple instances of
Dynamips hypervisors. Linux doesn't have that restriction so you can
run a single hypervisor.

I use the windows version for quick/small tests ( no more than 5

higher
compared to linux. You may also run into issues with dynamips
crashing when
booting about 8 or more routers, even with a boot-sequence delay.

For heavy I'd recommend using linux.

Subject: [OSL | CCIE_RS] Dynamips / GNS3 64 Bit

Hello Peoples

So on Windows 7 has anyone tried the 64Bit version of Dynamips/GNS3
that is
available as a stand-alone download?

If so, any good, bad or ugly?

Ta

Joe
