Copying the same information back and forth between mailing lists and bug reporting systems makes one or the other useless. And in reality, you end up with a problem where half of the relevant information is in each one, and lots of duplication. This makes it impossible to deduce anything from it later, when the next person having this problem is trying to figure out if it is the same.
