I have never read of any case where a school refers a child to a doctor for
free transition medication. How would that even work? The consultation
isn't free. Medication isn't free. It would need to be prescribed first
which can't be done without parents. Then who would pay for it if the
parents weren't involved? Schools don't have the budget and states won't
pay for it.
Until there's any evidence that this "secret" transitioning is happening
AND a child is somehow being prescribed free medication all without
parental consent, I'm calling BS on these claims.
Counseling a child to give them a sounding board isn't a bad thing in my
eyes. The questions can revolve around why a child feels the way they feel,
do they think they will be safe with their parents if they share this info,
resources to learn more about their feelings, etc. None of that is harmful
to a child. It's not encouraging or discouraging anything. It's just a
trusted adult who should remain neutral and listen to the child. The only
mandated reporting for school staff is when a child is a danger to
themselves or others, or has been abused by someone. Coming out as maybe
trans or LGBT isn't something that should be shared with anyone until the
child is ready and feels safe to do so. There's plenty of abusive parents
out there who don't deserve kids.
