I built a whole product line that did that back in 1990.  19.2 kbps on 450 
splinter channels.  Smokin!

There is a whole other class of low-latency wireless gear. FEC is removed. ARQ 
is nowhere to be found. 

The radios are optimized so that the data spends as few picoseconds as possible 
in the radio.

All the licensed gear I know of is full duplex, and should have near wire speed 
latency. The latency should be proportional to the link distance.
