Thank you for the time to take time to provide an answer and the

* The intention was indeed to translate the words Chapter etc. to
their Dutch (and other languages) equivalent.

files, but I was not able to fix them all in a consistent way yet. I
have to dive deep into it again. Your changes will help in this
respect.
is there a reason why you have
xmlns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook"
and
xmlns:ns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook"
xmlns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook" is really needed as XMLmind XML
Editor uses it as the default namespace when it saves a DocBook 5
document to disk.
Adding xmlns:ns="http://docbook.org/ns/docbook" is valid and should be
harmless for any software correctly parsing XML.
Note that XMLmind XML Editor also adds --just in case--
---
xmlns:xlink="http://www.w3.org/1999/xlink"
xmlns:xi="http://www.w3.org/2001/XInclude"
xmlns:ns5="http://www.w3.org/1998/Math/MathML"
xmlns:ns4="http://www.w3.org/2000/svg"
xmlns:ns3="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml"
---
because these namespaces are found in the RELAX NG schema of DocBook 5.
the corrections have to be made in doxygen so doxygen will emit valit
docbook output. I use XMLMind as a viewer as it gives great hints.
* thanks for the links to the github page of the stylesheets (most
likely I will file a bug there for the multiple HTML files).
* regarding the languages (like Armenian, Macedonian, Norwegian), this
is probably also a problem of the stylesheet (or even on my computer?)
I don't think so. Simply, the DocBook XSL stylesheets have message
translations "only" for the following languages:

- Armenian language code is: "hy" and hy.xml is not available.
- Macedonian language code is: "mk" and mk.xml is not available.
- There is no Norwegian language per se. There are two: Bokmål ("nb")
and Nynorsk ("nn"). Translations nb.xml and nn.xml are available.
