Hey Nuklear,
I would suggest you aim not to clone Dev-C++. Instead make something much
better. For starters start with adding the same features. Here Dev-C++
source may be helpful. I would like to see a visual studio 2005 like smart
debugger in an open source C++ IDE. May be you are interested.

I think the point is many IDE's have come and gone simply because others
in the past have come close to making great IDEs then stop. I was pretty
happy with the MinGW Developer Studio but Parinya eventually had other
things going on in his life and then the project ended up abandoned. This
is not necessarily something just for open source software either. SyBase
had an IDE called Power++ and let me tell you it was ahead of its time and
they abandoned it. Some of the things they were doing back in 95' are just
now making their way to Visual C++ 2005. One of my favorite features was
the drag and drop of functions into your code and a pop up wizard would
appear to allow you to select data from existing objects such as databases,
sockets, etc...
I don't want to discourage you, I think it is great if someone wants to
clone or replicate something for other platforms. I could see more interest
in the project if instead you put your efforts toward creating a new IDE
that only inherits the good things of Dev-C++ and also incorporates other
features that are fresh, new, innovative and/or useful. I am still waiting
for someone to make an editor with a find/replace panel similar to Firefox's
search. That is just one improvement for any IDE that I'd love to see.
Lets get rid of modeless dialogs! :-)
