i am not sure what you are thinking, but i think i see a problem in my
description of what it will do and i need to update the project
resources accordingly.
the interface is going to be cloned. it will be the bloodshed version,
but then it should have options to switch to the new wx design. maybe
that should be pluggable? (not too far yet) i do not want to clone the
internals, that would not be a good thing.
i am very new to administrating, this is the idea i have, but i need to
do a lot of work to sort it out and present it clearly. i am not very
good at presenting my thoughts. i am always surprised that someone does
not understand me and i have to think over what i said to help them
understand what i am actually thinking.
this post was a good thing since it helped me see what i forgot to
explain. i wanted to get a website up that looked ok and gave some basic
information, but i see it becoming more like ogre or codeblocks some
time. i hope it to be soon, but it will not be me who does this. looks
like the roadmap is depreciated already. lol! :-)
the core of wxDevIDE is to get the people who like dev on windows to use
it elsewhere and feel comfortable. i like the interface but i agree that
there are problems with some other aspects of it. i partially didn't
realize this before you said that, but that was what i was thinking
anyway. the interface has really been the primary thing on my mind. at
first i though of getting the compiler and other interfacing objects out
of the way, but i realized that is not what i wanted to do. nor do i
understand it well. so i decided to change the structure of the project
to multiple concurrent sub projects, i will need lotsa help to do it though.
i can see this is going to come off to a rough start. i need to figure
out what is the line between giving dev people the ide on linux etc and
where the extendability comes in. i am certain to allow menu options. it
will support more project files import and export than dev does. more
formated source options. these will be separate plugins so that the ide
is not too cluttered in the first place. that is part of the problem
with some ides. they are too featured from the beginning. i do not think
dev is, but it does lack support in areas.
no you did not change my mind, you cleared it up. thank you for saying
that.! ;-)

ps:
I'm sorry, I didn't want to upset you. You are probably right so go ahead.
you did not upset me, i was trying to clear it up. like i said above, i am poor
in explaining myself correctly.
(i hope this is not bothering everyone, i will not continue this discussion
further here should it go on.)

Hello Nuklear,
I think the point is many IDE's have come and gone simply because
others in the past have come close to making great IDEs then stop. I
was pretty happy with the MinGW Developer Studio but Parinya
eventually had other things going on in his life and then the project
ended up abandoned. This is not necessarily something just for open
source software either. SyBase had an IDE called Power++ and let me
tell you it was ahead of its time and they abandoned it. Some of the
things they were doing back in 95' are just now making their way to
Visual C++ 2005. One of my favorite features was the drag and drop of
functions into your code and a pop up wizard would appear to allow you
to select data from existing objects such as databases, sockets, etc...
I don't want to discourage you, I think it is great if someone wants
to clone or replicate something for other platforms. I could see more
interest in the project if instead you put your efforts toward
creating a new IDE that only inherits the good things of Dev-C++ and
also incorporates other features that are fresh, new, innovative
and/or useful. I am still waiting for someone to make an editor with a
find/replace panel similar to Firefox's search. That is just one
improvement for any IDE that I'd love to see. Lets get rid of
modeless dialogs! :-)

and in a big way, this projects purpose is to be the porting of
dev to other platforms. the wxdev project discussed porting and
decided that it was not something they should pursue. the
bloodshed project has ceased because the admins (and maybe
developers?) do not have the time or means of continuing its
development.
i have time, interest and drive. so i can do it. it is my project
so i can do it my way. writing a c++ ide in c++ makes a lot of
sense and i took the time to learn wxWidgets. also, being that its
purpose is to port the ide, it should have that strict paradigm.
and about the choice, i am not doing it for YOUR choice of ide. i
am doing it so those who CHOOSE dev can also choose dev when they
are in linux, or mac, or wherever.
that is why.

hello everyone. i am starting a project on sf.net <http://sf.net> to attempt to clone as
reasonable close as possible the wxDev-C++ ide in wxWidgets so it can be
used by developers on other platforms. there are a few technical
difficulties of course.
two dealing with the interface are coolbar (not in linux as far as i am
aware)
and xp theme. i am wondering if anyone knows of any project or work
toward that kind of component set has been done for wxWidgets? this
would involve new components that wrap the native ones and can be
toggled to overwrite the drawing.
I don't see the need for cloning the aesthetics of the Dev-C++ ide. Why
does it have to be the clone "so close as possible".
I think most unix/linux users likes to see their programs integrated
with they current style. This is kind of the idea of wxWidgets.
I fear that when your project is finished other projects like
Code:Blocks might be chosen due to its long and and active development.
Although I believe Dev-C++ it's a great IDE, projects like Code::Blocks
are pretty much getting there. It might be more useful to make some kind
of tools that can import projects to each other.
And as Francesco said it would be a lot of work!
Sorry if my words sound hush, it's just my opinion.
Regards, Matas.
