I do not think we advertise since we do not sell anything. I think we inform and it is important to do it. All projects do that.
The problem with reddit are two: 1) I did almost all of the posting. I wish other users had taken more initiative. 2) There a few very vocal people on reddit who have invested a significant amount of time and money on a competing project and do not particularly welcome competition. It is understandable. People who spend time posting negative comments usually have reason to do it, they are not just wasting their time. I do not care. I only get annoyed when people post something that is untrue like that day somebody posted about web2py having a history of vulnerabilities (?!). It was funny that a couple of weeks later the project that somebody was involved in had to release an emergency security patch. The spam issue has nothing to do the actual posts. It has to do with the issue discussed here: http://www.mail-archive.com/web2py@googlegroups.com/msg04250.html There are links out there built on purpose to have search engines to classify web2py as spam. It is done on purpose. It is unfair competition but nothing we can do about that. The reddit moderators know their spam filter classifies 'web2py' as spam and when contacted about this they told me, apologized and made me moderator of the python subreddit so that I can override the block.
