I don't see how else it can be read: "Except as otherwise permitted by the NetMeeting, Remote Assistance, and Remote Desktop features described below, you may not use the Product to permit any Device to use, access, display or run other executable software residing on the Workstation Computer, nor may you permit any Device to use, access, display, or run the Product or Product's user interface, unless the Device has a separate license for the Product." (from: Microsoft Windows XP Pro EULA) This states, unequivocally, that (for, example) that *no* non-XP machines may run vncviewer to connect to vncserver running on XP (unless you buy an XP licence for the non-XP client - maybe that's what they want!). ...now whether you regard EULAs as in any way relevant or binding is up to you, unless you live in Maryland or Virginia, who have passed the UCITA law making a contract you can't read ahead of purchase legally binding, and the devilish small print like the above enforcable by criminal prosecution. Other states are preparing to pass UCITA as well. See Affect (Americans for Fair Electronic Commerce Transactions): http://www.4cite.org/ and the American Library Organisation's "state-of-play" page: http://www.ala.org/washoff/ucita/news.html If you value VNC and similar Free Software, you should read why UCITA could kill them off: http://www.gnu.org/philosophy/ucita.html > (But it actually doesn't matter > because I own multiple XP Professional licenses.) Have you a licence for the "device" you're running vncviewer on? You wouldn't try to connect to your XP box from a W2K box, or something criminal like that, would you? ...and if you think that's silly, tell your state legislators so.
