>>DCC isn't designed to tell you if a message is spam/not-spam. It's a >>*BULK* indicator. e.g. have lots of people seen this message? > >that is simply not true and defeats the purpose > >the problem are idiots reporting legit mail as spam
Well, the folks who *run* the DCC servers seem to disagree with you. From <http://www.rhyolite.com/dcc/>: "A DCC server totals reports of checksums of messages from clients and answers queries about the total counts for checksums of mail messages. A DCC client reports the checksums for a mail message to a server and is told the total number of recipients of mail with each checksum." So yeah, DCC is checking a message for bulk, not spam. Razor and Pyzor, on the other hand, do use report information to try to identify bulk spam vs bulk ham. Finally I would submit that if the phrase "sometimes wrong, but never uncertain" sounds like a description of your mailing list posts, it¹s worth putting the effort in to change that. It took me 30 seconds of reading to confirm that my understanding of DCC was correct, and another 60 seconds to discover that my understanding of Razor and Pyzor was wrong. Worth the effort, I¹d say. -- Dave Pooser Cat-Herder-in-Chief, Pooserville.com "...Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in one pretty and well-preserved piece, but to slide across the finish line broadside, thoroughly used up, worn out, leaking oil, and shouting GERONIMO!!!" -- Bill McKenna
