Hello Justin.

I did see the console while it was still a standalone product, and I somehow
thought that it was a very early attempt to integrate a new HawtIO version, and
that the development will continue towards the previous experience. It's a user
interface after all, and users who are not devs are not very interested in the
guts of the software. On contrary, their main concern is for it to look and
behave more or less the same as they're used to. With that said, I maintain the
MQ service here, and I develop the tools around it; I also contributed to
Artemis with some less important changes---but I'm not its only user.

I'm never happy about providing negative feedback, especially when people
dedicate their free time to maintain the product. I'll gladly offer my
cooperation on this, yet there are two "buts". First is the budget. As this is
my job, I must receive a permission from the management to implement changes.
And if the cheaper option is to increase the technical debt, odds are that we
just won't upgrade until a severe technical issue arises. My second concern is
that if this is the way the UI is supposed to behave (hence my question on
usability upgrades), then it's likely that my changes won't get approved.

So, for now, the only thing I can offer, is quick feedback.

With our static setup*, the UI scalability is not an issue. Therefore, if there
was a way to revert to the older UI, I'd be more than happy.

Please just don't get mad at me, folks. :-) I really appreciate what you're
doing, and Artemis surely is one of the best pieces of software I've had the
pleasure to work with.

Jan

*On this note, I may have an interesting thing to share with you in a different
thread.

Subject: Re: 2.40.0 HAWTIO console design

It's worth noting that there have been 2 independent releases of the console
that was integrated into and shipped with 2.40.0. Both of these releases were
announced on this list [1] [2]. Both announcements included a notification that
it would replace the existing console. The first release was in early October
2024 so there's been roughly 6 months to test and provide feedback.

I realize folks are busy, etc. My point is simply that early feedback was an
option, and the redesign shouldn't have been a surprise. I'm not sure what else
could have been done to make a meaningful difference.
