Whether it be story or history, Ferguson has represented like he's backed into the gig, and makes changes depending on when he gets bored.
Now, the contract clause may have been an artifact of contract negotiations, a means of confirming commitment from the network, etc. If the language is indeed when Dave 'can't continue to do the show' rather than 'leaves the show', it may not be as big of a deal. In other words, Craig's the go-to if Dave's bypasses cut out, not if he hangs them up. Seriously, though, just spitballing.
