I'm not sure how having hosted a dating TV show means that one can't also have
legitimate interests in nerdy things.

As David said, Wil Wheaton has vouched for Chris Hardwick's geekiness, going
back at least a few years before "Singled Out" (they were roommates for a time
while both attended UCLA, and have been friends since).

The recent "Nerdist" podcast episode with guest Dr. Demento comes to mind here
-- if Hardwick was faking his breathless fanboy exultation of Dr. D's presence,
then he's a really good actor.

(What I do agree with is that his name recognition and Hollywood contacts -- as
a result of "Singled Out," his DJ work on KROQ, etc. -- certainly didn't hurt
him in building the current "'Nerdist' empire"; he had quite a leg up over the
average geek-with-a-podcast.)
