On older phones, you may have to install things after a firmware update. The 
e71 last i knew you had to install things after a firmware update. So make sure 
you have a backup and all license numbers written down.

it is adviceable to backup important data before doing any software update in 
any device. however, you do not need to reinstall 
those softwares after the update process.

no, you are not allow to update the device while it is charging. you must make 
sure that the battery is about 50% full or 100% full 
is adviceable.
